Default Ever had this happen to you?

I was playing as Brutii in my first play through in ages, Macedon attacked me so i took there top most city.

The next turn they have a diplomat at my door asking to be a protectorate but i have to give that city back, so i do it. The same turn they attacked me with another army after the deal so pretty much i got nothin and had to take the north most city back again.

just never seen the ai do something so awsomely smart like that.

Yes, but it was not protectorate. I have allied w/ nations who attack the next turn. It it just the stupid ai, as they attack towns that are lightly defended regardless of the faction in control.

On a side note, why the heck did you become a protectorate? i usually do it the other way around...

    ^^This - i'm pretty sure

It might be a very smart move on a first view but if i remember correct due to a bug they will
still pay you half of their income on each turn.

I think the AI just randomly attack any nearby city that isn't well defended. For example if you encircle one of your Roman ally, so he can't expand, he will gladly break off the alliance and attack you.

p.s. I didn't know you can offer to be a protectorate of someone. Never seen that offer before in the negotiations.

yea it was them that wanted to be my protectorate, i just thought it was a very smart move, they got there city back and moved forces around while at peace with me that turn and attacked another city of mine to break it. In theory it was a good move for him but he got paid back, exterminated every city they had

Huh - this is getting out of control.

You mean you reacted on a very stupid move of the ai (which does on a first view look smart)
by not allowing them anymore to pay the price for it?

They were just doing what the AI usually do. I was once at war with Britannia and at that point they had all of Gaul, Germany and Great Britain of course and when I went to war with them everytime they wanted a ceasfire, they wanted all the regions I took from them, so the number of cities demanded just increased with every offer.
