Default How do you avoid bad traits?

Is there any way to avoid bad traits with your family members? They start off ok but once I leave them in a settlement they gain stupid traits (gamble, admirers of beauty, drunkard etc) and its really annoying: should I just keep my most promising family members in the army forever? I'm playing a Sparta campaign if thats relevant at Hard/Medium.

I think there was a trigger in the vanilla version that gave your family members a higher chance of receiving bad traits if you ended a turn with more than 50 000 in your treasury. I'm not sure if that's been removed (or if it ever existed - I'm working off rumours) but I try to keep my treasury below that amount and things seem better than when I didn't.

If you really want to avoid those traits I suggest you look at the triggers - be warned there are a million bazillion of those - and see exactly what events bring on bad traits and hence try to avoid those events.

    Just my amateur opinion. =)

Ah that makes sense. The only problem is that I have tons of money because I don't believe in queuing my building orders: I'm at the stage where I have several hundred thousand in my treasury....

Will probably change soon though: I've gone from having 600k to 200k ever since I started conquering all the goddam barbarian settlements in Thrace (is it called Thrace? Tharcia? Its the poor barbarian areas north of Greece ) and of cource since they are barbarian towns even when i execute them I have to leave a stack inside for at least 10-20turns before I can move on and conquer the next town....

Above 50k denarii usually gives Mildly Extravagant, Extravagant, and Wildly Extravagant.

Avoid? Why would you want to avoid traits like that? Weren't most of the aristocracy at that point, relatively, either drunk idiots who spent money on obscene things or ascetic sociopaths anyway? Where's your sense of adventure!

Speaking of which, this now gives me an urge to find someone to make a drinking game for RTR.

@Innsmouths Why wouldn't you want to avoid bad traits...nobody wants their family members to have bad traits unless they like to role-play.

@defendurname Yes there is. For a quick and easy change for an amateur modder you could simply go to the data folder of your mod and then click on the export_descr_character_traits.txt and then press control f and type in mildly. It will take you to the mildly_extravagant trait.

    Level Mildly_Extravagant
    Description Mildly_Extravagant_desc
    EffectsDescription Mildly_Extravagant_effects_desc
    Threshold 1

    Effect Management -1

    Change the -1 to this

    Level Mildly_Extravagant
    Description Mildly_Extravagant_desc
    EffectsDescription Mildly_Extravagant_effects_desc
    Threshold 1

    Effect Management 1

You can do the same for the rest of the 'extravagant' traits which by the way are right below the mildly extravagant one. You could also alter any other traits you dislike i.e. drunkard.

What does changing the -1 to 1 actually do btw before I mod this?

    And thanks for the tip.

Instead of taking away 1 management it adds 1. You could also just delete the traits, when doing so you should, however, also delete all references to them in descr_strat and export_VnVs

The reason I didn't tell him that is because that is because its significantly more complicated and potentially CTD invoking...

In the attached text file are the basic RTW traits without any add-ons, in it I did alter the corruption triggers, which only kick in at 750k+ denari. (which means the extravagant traits and other corruption traits will not appear unless triggered by a random birth/you use to many money cheats/you have very large amounts of income which you don't spend).

Thanks alot but I have a quick question:

Is this the same as RTR except corruption beginning at 750k? (cant remember if RTR7 added new traits/ancillaries or not)
Can I use this on a current game or do I need to make a new one?

    Many thanks again!

No, these are just the vanilla traits. RTR VII adds a lot more systems, including the ''Roman Leadership System'', which will all be removed when using the posted file.

Whenever you make changes to traits, you'll need to start a new campaign, as traits in existing campaigns will be completely messed up in most cases. Especially when you change the whole export_descr_character_traits
