Default [Requesting Help] Porting RoTS Units to Sengoku Jidai Campaign

    Hi,

I've been trying to port over the RoTS Units to the Sengoku Jidai campaign. My objective was to make custom versions of these units so the original ones won't be touched for balancing purposes.

Unfortunately, while the game doesn't crash upon loading, the units don't show up in custom battles nor the campaigns. I meant for them to be recruited by the Sengoku Jidai campaign's buildings.

I've followed Ele's tutorial by the book. What gives?

My pack file is attached for your convenience.

I took a look at it. I can't get it to boot up after changing it to a mod file or a movie file. not only that but I noticed before in the Rots campaign that the units have some unique values that don't let them cross over very well (like how ROTS has no loose formations). you have to find out what and where those are first I think, or if the uniforms table contains uniforms that are unable to be used by the sengoku campaign or something. at one point I was able to recruit them, but the game would crash before going into battle.

I've actually been looking into this periodically, but I'm not sure if you can post it, as I think this would give people who didn't purchase the mod access to new units.

Thanks other mitch, it looks like I'll have to start combing patch10.pack for relevant values....oh boy.
What allowed you to at least recruit them?

Well, there are mods that edit Sengoku Jidai DLC units but I don't believe they give access to the people without the dlc....unless it's because they don't use custom units or something?

maybe, but we kinda don't know until someone who hasn't bought tries it.

on the other note, check patch pack 9 instead of 10, and try to create files from there. another thing, change it either to a movie pack file or a mod pack file (edit user.data). I'm actually really busy and am short on time this week but if you haven't figured something out by next week, I'll try to help.

You probably should ask Radious he made Sengoku units available in ROTS earlier but was having the same issue of CTD during battles with Sengoku units (or rather I was) before he removed them from his units mod. (Swiss Halberdier would probably know too)

Created stuff from patch pack 9, still the same problem.

Also, how do I edit user.data?

    Thanks for your help though.

    Sure, no problem man.

    C:\Users\(your User name)\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Shogun2\scripts

you may have to unhide the AppData folder if you never done it before. then when you get to the "User" file, open it and type; "mod (your mods name).pack;" if there isn't one, make a notepad file and name it "user.script"

    ex. "mod Mitchell_mod.pack;"

use this only if you change your mod to a "mod" pack. what I downloaded from you seemed to be a "release" pack.

I think the way it works is that certain files are given priority over others. "movie" and "mod" packs are at the top though. so if you put it in your data folder as a release then other stuff can override it...

I'm not an expert on this so take it with a grain of salt, I learned this through lurking on the forum when not studying, and constant... debilitating... good old fashion trial and error.

    Thanks for all your help.

Still..nothing's happening. I'm starting to think that there are other files involved with the units that make them "visible" in the game....looks like I'll have to comb the whole patch9.pack. Here's an upload of a newer version if you're interested in that......

Hey IGood, It works for me, but I get like this Magenta-pink armor for all the units, something might be wrong with the uniforms table. also for some reason it un-names all the other SJ units. so something else might be wrong with the 'texts'. it's a good start.

all you forgot to do is change it to a "movie" type file. they can all be recruited though I'll try it in a "mod" type later today...

if you import genpei-units into the sengoku jidai campaign via scripting, they are working but have no names/descriptions. the other way around. ^^

edit: i cant open the units table. maybe this could be a problem-source as well.

Thanks; it's surprising how complicated things can quickly get......

As for the color error......I'm not sure what's wrong with the uniforms and texts table; they're using the default (aka non-SJ) entries. It's just that the IDs are changed. hmm.....

So movie type would be name_movie.pack?

    Scripting?

I can open the units table with the most recent PFM though, sir!

when you open up the file in PFM editor, click on 'choose a pack action', look at the very bottom option and select 'movie' or 'mod', then save. if you do a 'mod' pack, you have to add it to the user.data file. it's good to try both just in case.

when you do it, you'll see what I was referring to. it's not impossible though, I had the same problems when I was learning how to make my own units... at least you've narrowed down the problems.

    Chrysantheme,

Actuall it's pretty simple.I've placed mod that allows you to switch and add units from one campaign to another, but was deleted.I was told is illegal)Using this mod myself for a while and as far as I can say, is working perfectly. Both ways. And it's really simple to do so.All you need is -building units allowed and units to groupings)

Okay, so the issue lies with uniforms. I made a simple edit and everything works fine now. No more nameless units (apparently the game became ultra confused and messed up all unit entries because of an error in uniforms).

Now the problem is.....whether to release this or not.....

I removed the uh attachments from earlier posts....sorry.

I ran into a deadlock with the tetsubo warrior monks. They always crash when loading into a battle that involves them. I don't know if anyone can help me, and I'm debating maybe I should just release the whole pack so people can download and hopefully fix the problem for me.

Edit: Nevermind, it was mod incompatibility. Not sure with which one though, and not sure why. Do those ID number things cause crashes?
