Default Does anyone else play like this...

Sometimes when I like a change, I play the faction historically. For example as the Roman Republic I started and conquered lands in a certain order to ensure accuracy.

First was conquering southern Italy, then the First Punic War, and then the second Punic War, and then the Illyrian War, and right now I am in the beginning of the Macedonian Wars. I also like to ally with the factions that Rome was allied with such as Greeks, Numidia, Scythia, Egypt, and Iberia.

This way of playing makes it harder because I could have easily conquered Carthage and Patavium but I didn;t

Here is a my campaign right now as the Roman Republic during the Macedonian Wars and before the Third Punic War.

Also one more thing: The more I play, the more I realize that alliances are a nuicance to conquerers (such as Romans.) I never break alliances because it ruins reputations in the future with other nations. What do you do to break alliances without actually "breaking" them. Does that make any sense? Like for example I am allies with Numidia because I hoped they would eat in Carthage's backsise while I attacked their Spanish holdings. Eventually, they took more than I wanted and know I want to claim lands that are theirs, but they are my allies.

I attempt to do that, but the AI usually ruins it for me. (Macedon/Greece conquering the entire Greek Peninsula, etc.) I think it's fun to relive history, and this game is a great way of trying to do so.

I am trying to say, how do you deal with your allies that have become more powerful than you want them to be? But not break the alliance, or at least not go to war, using diplomacy or subterfuge.

Yeah, thats what also made it hard for me. I tried (like the Romans) to keep my neighbors divided and not let one gain too much power over another. It requires very skillful diplomacy and webs of alliances and threats. Like weakening Macedon by attacking Epirus and allying with Greece while sending plauged assasins to thier cities.

No, it is Lusted's Terrae Expugnandae mod. Its probably the best mod out there for people who enjoy gameplay.

Side note about TE- does anyone know how large the program is when coupled with a copied RTW vanilla folder? I'd like to be able to play it/figure it out (it seems awesome) but I only have about 3-4 GB left on this stupid thing and copying RTW again will burn another 1 or so.

Aetius- as the Julii I tried that in vanilla, but I kind of got hamstrung by the fact that the Gauls like to go after you, and to do anything I had to go up and "silence" Mediolanium and Patavium....then Massilia, and by that point people were already moving on Carthage, which wound up being a general disaster for my historical thing. TE looks easier (one Rome faction)....

Yes I often try to do my campaigns as historically accurate as possible. However, circumstances and AI often ruin this approach.

TE 4.0 adds 293 mb to the size of your RTW. The .exe is 95mb, so does not take too long to download.

The only way that you can break an alliance with a faction without attacking them, is by...breaking the alliance with a diplomat. You can do this whithout fear of consequences!

    And Lusted' TE ROCKS!

And I also try to play historically, sometimes. Depends on the faction really.

Basically, you won't get to do it. I mean, it just won't work thanks to AI. They will do what they want, and not ask you, and it will ruin things. But, I like the idea, and what you've done with it.

Just an update on my campaign:

The Third Punic War is over and Cisapline Gaul has been conquered. The war in Macedon has intensified greatly as the Greeks have betrayed me. Now like in history I am moving my legions toward Corinth to sack it!

Iberia is a real pain in the @$$. They seem to never run out of soldiers...its exhausting. I had to defeat 4 full stacks to conquer 1 city.

Of course that is RTW, I think that is pretty obvious. Just kidding. Do you mean what mod is it? That looks like the MM campaign in Terrae Expugnandae 4.0, but I could be wrong.
