Sometimes when I like a change, I play the faction historically. For example as the Roman Republic I started and conquered lands in a certain order to ensure accuracy.
First was conquering southern Italy, then the First Punic War, and then the second Punic War, and then the Illyrian War, and right now I am in the beginning of the Macedonian Wars. I also like to ally with the factions that Rome was allied with such as Greeks, Numidia, Scythia, Egypt, and Iberia.
This way of playing makes it harder because I could have easily conquered Carthage and Patavium but I didn;t
Here is a my campaign right now as the Roman Republic during the Macedonian Wars and before the Third Punic War.
Also one more thing: The more I play, the more I realize that alliances are a nuicance to conquerers (such as Romans.) I never break alliances because it ruins reputations in the future with other nations. What do you do to break alliances without actually "breaking" them. Does that make any sense? Like for example I am allies with Numidia because I hoped they would eat in Carthage's backsise while I attacked their Spanish holdings. Eventually, they took more than I wanted and know I want to claim lands that are theirs, but they are my allies.
