Default Dinner at the Quintilii Villa

At the evening of the party Villa vas illuminated by various lighs from the pyre top of the main house to lanterns by the door. There were slaves to help at the door for arriving guests. Everyone was greeted by the most important members of the family of Quintilii, head of the family Marcus Quintilius Rufus, his brother Marcus Quintilius Avitus, elder of the family Numidus Quintilius Avitus and his wife who organised the party Quintilia Horatia. Everyone from senatorial class was invited including few of the familys own friends.

As gustatio there was served sardines, oysters, eggs and various cheese, bread and other small pastries.
The prima mensa cosisted of cooked birds, unborn pig fetus, elephant meat , bowl of honey that was meant for dipping, various meats including sausages both homemade and bought from around the republic and most impressive was fountain shaped vase of Garum and fish rigt next to them.
As for secunda mensa there was everything from fruits and cheeses to pastries resembling a miniature animals which were made by the best designers of the city.
And ofcourse there were lots of wine served around the meals from every corner of the Republic and beyond. For some who liked there was option to add hot water into it.

The setting was nothing less than a luxurious set of custom made pottery, glasses and goblets that you could not find from Rome and beatifully dressed slaves handing the food from silver platters. The meat was served from a very old Greek altar which was appointed for their god of hunting Artemis.

There were finest of the musicans playing from the city and between the meals there were dancing groups making small plays portraiting Roman history of war and victory.

Every facility of the Villa was in the use of the guest at the whole of the party.

Severus Metellus arrives with his wife. He wears a traditional, plain toga, without jewelry (save his signet ring) and Metella wears a stola and simple gold decoration. The couple do not hold hands or show any sign of affection in public, for that is unbecoming. The couple approach the villa of the Quintilii. He shows his invitation to a slave and sneers.

Severus is greeted by both men of the house Numidus Quintilius Avitus the elder and the head of the family Marcus Quintilius Rufus. "It is very good for you to come Severus." Even though bit weak due his age Numidus Quintilius shows them in where other guests are already talking of what people talk the best, money, politics, affairs of the gods and the greatness of Romans.

It is my pleasure to dine in your elegant home, Rufus.

Severus enters the villa and finds his way to the dining room, ignoring the slave at his elbow. Taking his seat on one of the couches, Severus nods to his friend, Cilo, across the room.

''Yes, indeed. I must say this is a great iniative. The music, the food, it is all great.'' he said, genuinely meaning it.
''So, how are you? I heard you were a candidate for the position of consul, how is that going?'' he asked Marcus.
