Sicilia et Africa
The province of Sicilia has served as the breadbasket of the Republic for over one hundred years. Although now mostly pacified, Sicily and its surrounding seas were the scene of many a bloody conflict between Rome and her most fearsome opponent Carthage. Although the island is now secure, the former boundaries of the old Carthaginian state are still vulnerable to attack from roving North African tribes. The wealth of this province is almost unrivaled.
The governor's palace located in ancient Syracuse is a testament to the former majesty of free Sicily. As a Roman province, however, Sicilia could once again rise as one of the greatest trade centers of the Mediterranean.
