    Default The Proconsulate of Hispania

    Hispania

Carthage's bastion of old, Hispania, is a work in progress. Although the Romans have carved out a mineral-rich eastern section of Spain, the interior remains firmly in the clutches of barbarian tribes. The fearsome Celt-Iberians have been a thorn in the Romans' sides for many decades. Any governor who could secure the whole of Spain for Rome would certainly go down in history as one of the greatest commanders of all time.

It is rumored that Spain's rich mining opportunities would allow huge quantities of wealth to be extracted from the countryside. Carthago Nova is the traditional capitol of this strange western world. Generations of Romans had been born, fought, and died in this distant corner of the growing empire. Although it has been under Roman sway for many years, it is still very much a frontier.

2,100 men desert from the 3rd Spanish Legion, and military tribunes have been sent to Rome to petition against the Proconsul for failure to pay the legion.

Double pay is given to all who did not desert and the same in addition to amnesty offered to all who return as well, along with the Proconsul's heartfelt apologies.

    A letter arrives

    Dearest Cilo,

It is unfortunate we could not arrange the marriage of our children before you departed. I am still interested in following through with this proposal. I hope to hear from you soon in regards to this matter. I am attempting to secure a command to rid us once and for all of this pirate nuisance. I shall endeavor to make safe the coasts of Spain if successful. How is Spain? I find Rome increasingly exciting as Praetor. Having lictors certainly does give on an air of authority.
