Default The Aerarium: Office of the Quaestors

    The Temple of Saturn

Located within the Temple of Saturn the Aerarium functions as both the treasury and legal office for the financial business of Rome, concerning either the Republic or personal transactions between wealthy individuals.

Severus enters the office and begins pouring over the year's income reports, searching for irregularities. He creates several dispensary notes:

    Gaius Marius Aquila: owed 5,000
    Marcus Quintilius Rufus: owed 5,000
    Tiberius Antonius Commodus: owed 3,000
    Servius Sulpicius Pansa: owed 4,000
    Sextus Tuccius Alexander: owed 4,000
    Publilus Sempremonius Lucullus: owed 4,000
    Severus Caecilius Metellus: owed 2,000
    Gnaeus Claudius Tranquillus: owed 2,000
    Quintus Antonius Lucro: owed 2,000
    Septimus Numerius Arrius: owed 2,000
    Triarius Atilius Regulus: owed 2,500
    Gaius Commodus Graccus: owed 2,500

After this is completed Severus scribbles a note to the Censor, requesting his presence.

Gnaeus looked over the list, and wondered why his fellow Quaestor had excluded him from it, and why Philus was owed money, when he hadn't been at all active within the Curia over the past year.

His musing was immediately answered when he remembered how he resigned, decided not to, then resigned again, but then decided not to again.

His musing was brought up again when he remebered that the only person who knew of his resigning was the Censor, and somehow everyone found out about it before even the Censor had read the note, gone to vote with it, before he had chance to speak, and when arriving in the Curia, no one had questioned his prescense in the past term whenever he spoke, and how the person they had brought in to take the place hadn't showed up, but would still get the pay, for not showing up, even when he had made it quite clear numerous times that he was resigning at the end of the year, they had all chosen to ignore him, however he was taking his pay...

The Censor arrived, enjoying the change of scenery as he walked by foot to the Aerarium. He spoke intently to some of the senators who were loitering around before waiting by the entrance.

Upon sighting Commodus Severus met him in the atrium of the Temple of Saturn

Good morning, Censor. As the members of the Senatorial class continue to draw in their yearly earnings I think it is of paramount importance that we ensure that none of this money is ill-gotten. I have no reason to suspect anyone of unscrupulous earnings but vigilance will ensure nothing slips past our nets.

Tiberius gave a nod of content,

"I am most pleased that you have diverted your attention to this matter, it is as you said paramount that we remain wary for those who wish to extort money from the system using rather shady means. Is there anything else you wish to notify myself of?"

Yes, Censor. I have noticed a certain Senator Tranquilus has been engaging in money making activity unbecoming of a patrician and a senator. His behavior seems to be very focused on the sordid trade of making money. He has opened up his estates for hire, his merchant fleet, his farms, and perhaps the most disturbing of all, he has imported mercenaries for hire to any may with the money to pay for it. I am disturbed by this behavior, but most notably the last.
