Default ybbon - rome 0 -turn

    H/H BI
Screens to follow but only a few turns in. I lost Nepos to Hannibal when I tried to break his siege of Arretium and he still took it.

3 rebel armies but they've only taken Rhegion and Tarentum and only one full army so shouldn't take long to beat them. I abandoned Spain and Greece for now.

    promotions etc

    Hannibal kills Nepos

    Looking forward to more.
Any suggestions for gameplay improvements gratefully received...particularly about how to make this start a real nailbiter.

GCS has a real crash in finances. Had the same in my Pergamon campaign, it looks like a classic heartbeat on a monitor with spikes. May be worth a check if all is OK. I forgot the fow off but I'm only 4 turns in. Money feels tighter than earlier in the testing but not too bad. You need to feel you can win in Italy even with Hannibal and Rebels for the first 10 turns, may be a struggle but you should feel you can survive. Having to balance building and recruiting but I have 2 full stacks to clean out the rebels and will have a 3rd from Sicily with troops added from Sardinia. Which should be enough to take Italy at least.

I've just taken away some tax benefit (slashed from 200 to 50) for the Republican dictator. Let's see whether that makes things a bit more scary! Try updating and restarting if you can cope.

How much of a challenge so far? Does Hannibal's army need strengthening? Or the rebels?

Oh sorry. Rebels took Croton but that army was easy to defeat, and Capua. That had 2 1/2 stacks but as I had a Sicilian Legion, and I abandoned Spain and Greek lands I have enough to fight them. Nepos fought them and won against the odds. They still have Capua and annoyingly it's got plague and worse I made a mistake and sent Scipio the Elder too close to the city so now he's got a full Legion stuck on the zone of control. Hannibal took Arriminum and I haven't tried to get that back yet. Besieging Genoa after destroying 2 armies there but they only have a few troops left so that will fall easily. Hannibal will still be nasty. The armies seem reasonable but I've been more aggressive fighting them so that may have helped.

The rebels had more troops, if you didn't expect them, you could be in trouble. Apart from Hannibal, the Carthaginians are OK. I updated SVN yesterday evening before starting so I have the newest stuff.

Economically it seems tighter, more akin to the first stages of the Belgae and Gallaeci which are always a bit tight. Definitely need to balance troop recruiting/retraining and building but not so tight to be frustrating. However, I'm not sure I am on m/m or h/h.

I've played to turn 16 then a CTD but I think that my fault for reloading a save without quitting (I loaded Scipio the Elder on a ship, didn't get where I was going by the end of turn and then got sunk by a bunch of pirates. Vexing!), so I cheated and reloaded which I reckon caused my CTD so not to worry about that.

Once you clear out Italy of rebels and Carthage money becomes easier - 25-20k profit a turn. I'll restart tomorrow and leave units in Dyrrhacium and Emporiae to see how that works out. Got some screens to update tomorrow too.

Oh yes, I got a fair few people adopted to the family. I'll try tomorrow using recruited generals.

Screens taken 542 winter (turn 16). Things are beginning to tick along nicely now awards and traits are similar to what others have posted so I haven't added these.

    rankings screens

The finances are misleading as I just took Syracuse (only had Heiros II ?) and his guard in it - so one full stack against 31 - anyway I sacked it which gave me 24K and I haven't spent all that so the predictions on profit will be somewhat off for now.

OK new campaign, BI. m/m with normal size units. I've kept Emporiae and Dyrrhacium this time. Screens from turn 4 and I think a few from turn 5.

    rankings etc

    fow off

The rebels attacked me outside Croton - lost Scipio the younger there, had 2 armies at Capua, the 2nd one went to Cannae and then Tarentum but then I've got them holed up in Tarentum (remnants anyway). It definitely went after me a bit more. As I've brought the armies from Dyrrhacium and Emporiae it will help - left a small garrison in each but about to send a governor to them. Then just got to kick Hannibal out of Ariminum again.
