Default A few questions about the mod

    Hello to everybody

I am new to the mod - i will try it for the first time this evening when i return from work
Impatient to do so, I would like to ask you a few questions in the meanwhile (i hope they are not stupid, i read the readme and notes)
    Here they are:

    1. Are these the real night battles typical to BI or something like the skymod of RTR (just darker sky, nothing else)
    2. How is it possible that units swim in rivers without BI installed (or maybe it is a feature of 1.5?)
    3. When and how are the Marian reforms activated and is there only 1 reforms event
    4. Do I need to run some script (different than the garrison script) in order to make the game run correctly. If there is some script, how do I activate it (f.e. do i need to make something to run the 4tpy script)
    5. Do I have to build faction specific barracks/stables/archeries in order to recruit units in newly conquered settlements like in RTR
    6. And in the end, is there something else i need to know (and still don't) about this mod

    Thanx very much in advance
I hope my questions were not answered a hundered times before

    1. Yes they are the same night battles as in BI, this mod is built off of 1.5
    2. Again a feature of 1.5
    3. The reforms are automatic when an imperial palace is built in the Italian peninsula. This is Automatic no suprises.
    4. No just the garrison script.
    5. No just retrain if the barracks allow you to recruit them. But to be more realistic, I destroy and build roman barracks anyway (more challenging)!
    6. No not really try, just to play by the house rules for historic gameplay (i.e. legion composition, etc.) This is in the readme folder.

You made a great choice in chosing this mod to play! LT is a genuis!

Thank you for the answers, my friend
I can't wait to try this mod, it will definitely be a nice change after having played RTR for such a long time

    2. There is no swimming in the mod, thats a BI.exe attribute.
    4. The Garrison script has the 4TPY script added to it, It is not needed to play SPQR, but really adds to the challenge and fun, There is a thread in the sticky section of this forum which shows how to activate the script. ;-)
    5. No you dont, but Be careful as Unrest can be a problem in far flung corners of the Empire, its always best to replace ALL buildings with Roman ones sometime during the occupation of the city.
    6. I recommend reading the forum here and check out the README folder installed in your RTW Directory. Also I suggest NOT to blitz by just rushing in and attacking the AI taking city after City in a few turns, the game is MOST challenging Later in the campaign, which is something Unique to the other mods, as usually there is what is called the Steamroller effect and the game becomes to easy, this really doesnt happen in SPQR. I also recommend playing on M/M for the campaign and using the garrison script.

Thank you for your reply too, lt
    I will follow your advices
Until now I've always played Campaign map: Hard, Battles: Medium
Will "Hard" be too hard in this mod?
btw does the AI still receive the stupid cash bonus in 1.5?

SPQR is designed to play best on M/M, if you are playing 6.1 you could go to H/H but don't come crying to the rest of us when you get your bottom soundly kicked

I only have one question, and that is how enjoyable is it to play this mod?
Ive played the recent versions and found it enjoyable, abit too hard it places but overall very good. The problem is ever since ive got my PS2 online ive been playing Pro Evolution Soccer 5 excessively on the internet. Whenever i think about starting to play SPQR i just think it would be boring and dont start a campaign. Just need some encouragement really.

SPQR 6.1 is very enjoyable from my standpoint. If you haven't given it a try yet then you are missing out on a great mod. This version is far better than the previous ones . The main difference to me is the night battles and the garrison script which keeps you from blitzing the AI and conquering multiple proviences in a single turn. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to give this a chance,

I was looking for a place to put this question, guess this is as good as any. I happen to like the Brutii, and green is my favorite color....so I change the Julii to the brutii successfully, expecting (as in other times I did it) that all the banners and stuff would be GREEN. But alas, they remain RED!! I've looked all over trying to find the Brutii banners...are they not there, LT? Just wondering how I can get them back? If it's not a pretty simple answer, I don't want you to waste a lot of time on it....I'll probably figure it out, but just thought you could point for me... :original: Thanks

SPQR campaigns, can be played over time, and are best if they take weeks. I leave and come back to my campaigns which adds fun, because when I continue my campaign after a weeks break, I find I dont have to start over again which is refreshing. I suggest just starting a campaign and saving it, then come back to it time from time.

In descr_strat--just give the Brutii the lands Julii already owns and you can play as them now with their own banner and their own faction color. Also, dont forget to put the Brutii faction from non-playable to playable.

Thanks Sid, but I already did that, and I can play as the brutii....it's just that their banners on the strat map are still the red Julii banners. I just wanted them green. All the units are green, it's just the banners that didn't change.

Ah yes I get what you mean. Anyway, I am sorry to say that LT didn't include Brutii banners. If you have a image viewer that could view .tga image formats. You can see that there is absolutely no Brutii or Scipii banners in the banners folder. Well, I recommend you that if ever you plan on reinstalling SPQR6.1 make a backup of banners folder so that you can use the vanilla banners instead.

Ahhh, thank you Sid my friend. You confirmed my suspicions....it appears that all the Roman banners reference the red Julii ones. Yet another mystery solved! Heehee :original:
