Default How about a real "Late" campaign

I've just started a late campaign with SS in the hope of having some fun with late era units, like the real heavies and gunpowder units.
But it seems I will have to play several hundreds of turns before these units turn up.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to have a truly late campaign, starting at the earliest just after the "New Era" event that's supposed to come around 1300? Or maybe even late 1300?
With the current "late" campaign, you have to wait so many turns for the late units to turn up that the game will more or less be over when 1400 finally comes around and things really start to go boom.

I'm playing with RR, by the way, as I heard that showed SS from its best side.
I gues I could play without RR to speed up the arrival of gunpowder units et. al. - but would I be missing some other great features, then...?

This is nearly as late as I've ever had a campaign. The other one was with the turks buuuut it got corrupted

But this would be the first time I've ever managed to bring about a superpower battle! (The entire east belongs to the egyptian gold; turks and timurids are allies/vassals)

The papacy actually became the second most powerful with Italy and Germany, spreading to Hungary and Poland but got killed off (more or less).

I think a real late campaign is either in development for the next release of SS or maybe for a submod. I can't remember exactly. But anyway, I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to just make it yourself if you were so inclined. Change the start date of the campaign, change the years after start for the events to trigger, and possibly change the timescale so you still have a decent amount of turns before the end of the campaign. The only problem I can think of with this is that a lot of events will need to trigger before whatever year you start the campaign at. The two ways to go about dealing with that are

    1. Change the event requirements for everything in EDB. This would be a huge hassle and very tedious.
    2. Simply trigger all the previous events in the first couple of turns. This would be a pretty ghetto way of doing things, but I think it would work. It would also be much easier.

A 1390 campaign submod is in production. Check the submods forum.

Ive always thought an Italian pennisula campaign would be cool. City states and all that

Not sure how different you could make the units though

There is one (IIRC) in one of the releases of RR/RC. It also includes a 100 years war campaign, I think.
