Carthage is very fun and pretty easy. I conquered all of sicily and rome within 50 years. The money really flows in after taking Akragas (a aikidan city) near lilybaeum
Carthage is very fun, but they are also pretty huge, so there might be a little more micromanagement than you'd want on the first go in, but who knows, maybe you like that as I do.
An isolated faction like the Dynasty of Attalos might be what you're looking for, as you don't face too much immediate opposition. Lusitania and the Getai might also work for that.

Maybe Sparta? They only have the one region so there is little micromanagement initially. They have a decent army to start off with and you'll be able to take on bigger armies if you use your elite units carefully. Once you start conquering Greece the money will really start to flow in.
Thank you to all of the RTR Team.
I would go for Sparta as well if you're new to the game/mod. As pointed out the post above here, all enemies come from the same direction (North), little micro managing, a strong army and they're a tad overpowered due to some minor balance issue
Also, the Achaean League might be a good choice (my favourite). You can blitz the Spartans as they have no wall around Sparta (could count as cheating, but who cares). And holding onto newly conquered regions is slightly easier for them as rebellions are less likely to happen with league factions
