    Icon5 Generals Bodyguard

Where can I find this line "general_unit_upgrade" mentioned in the EDU (modding Stainless Steel 6.4) ?

I'd like to change the bodyguards from newly spawning generals, or generals born in my family tree to Late Bodyguards from the beginning of the campaign (only for the HRE faction), also I'd love to know when the Early bodyguards do change into late bodyguards. Therefor I just have to know where is a line that says what bodyguard spawned generals will have and when it changes (which event triggers this).

Also is there perhaps a way to let generals born in your family tree have for example late bodyguards, and generals not part of your family tree early bodyguards?

I already know the descr_strat file, but that only changes the bodyguards in the beginning of the campaign. It doesn't change the spawning of further generals as far as I know...

    any help appreciated!

Afaik, nobody has succeed to do what's you ask (changing bodyguard version in game). Seems there's an entry missing or the code is broken. The only way to come to the closest "mimic" of that feature is to make recruitable general's bodyguards and tie them to a specific event date (say event_counter Late_plate_armor 1) to them. When that event will occur, that unit will be available and the earlier version been removed (if you have coded it with and not event_counter Late_plate_armor 1). The current version of SS has this feature already so you won't have to bother on it).

Well my question is in what file the general units are linked to this event. I know it probably exists but it isn't located in the EDU

AFAIK general_unit_upgrade does not work at all.

The only possible way to implement a change in bodyguard unit entry during the course of a campaign is to manually change the EDU.

If you want new characters to use a new bodyguard then just put it before the currently used unit in EDU.

You will have to search inside the Export_Descr_Buildings for your recruitable late bodyguard, the event is already tied on him.

^That's what I told you in the first post I made.

I also told you this in the first post:

If you wanted to do it only for HRE then you would have to remove a unit from SS to make a new bodyguard entry that is only used by HRE.

BTW Faldor, if you have changed what you want and are now satisfied with just being able to recruit them then it's worth pointing out that the AI will never recruit a general.

    Thanks for the help

I don't really understand what you mean "doesn't recruit generals". How do they get generals once their old ones die?

The same way players do: They are automatically spawned by the game when a child comes of age, and I have given you details to determine which unit entry will be used in a previous post.

Wow this is getting messy... And it's not your fault

You might not realise it, because it has close to nothing to do with what you've asked, but you're having a conversation with Polycarpe about recruiting generals.

I know how to recruit generals, that's not at all a mystery to me. What I'm searching for is a file in which spawned generals (generals born out of a family tree, adopted,...) are linked to a certain bodyguard unit

I thought you meant the Ai doesn't spawn any new generals, cause I was talking about spawned generals all the way.

anyway thanks for the help but still the spawned general units schould be linked somewhere in a text file to a certain bodyguard unit...

The game takes the first unit entry with the faction's ownership in export_descr_units that has the "general_unit" attribute. And by first, I mean the one closest to the top of the file. So if there are two units that belong to that faction with the attribute, it'll take the one on top.

Thanks that's the answer I needed

Anyway thanks to all of you

PS: any idea what "general_unit_upgrade" stands for in the EDU (SS 6.4), is that triggered by a certain event or anything similar
if so: where can I find this line, this trigger?
