I have this inexplicable problem when playing as Makassa (a tiny, one province nation, that I started just to see how long I could survive, and also play around with a few things without the pressure of my experimentation causing me to lose the game)
Anyway, Makassa and Majapahit have a ... thing. Every decade or so, Majapahit will declare war on Makassa, half of South-east asia will defend Makassa, and Majapahit will be forced to declare bankruptcy. This has repeated for the last 60 years.
I recently found out (due to my naval skirmishes) that Majapahit has literally zero morale (due in part to repeated bankruptcy and stability problems). Therefore, I decided to send 1000 infantry vs. 1000 of their infantry. The battle started well... my troops had full morale, and they had about 10%. Leave them to win ... and then get the battle notification message "You lost".
What? Maybe I missed something, so I reloaded (for learning purposes), and looked again. Sure enough, on the second to last round of combat, I deal some shock damage, and they deal shock damage to me, and .... my morale is zero. So is theirs. And I lose again. Reloading a third time (to make a save point about a week before the battle), and the same thing happens. I fight, I lose 100% of morale in one swoop, and ... win. I presume it is a 50/50 fight. But it shouldn't be!!
If it helps, we are fighting on Bali-Lombok, which is a small island just north of Australia. It's 1455, and I have land tech 4, and I presume they have land tech 3 (bankruptcy is a, right?)
Is this as designed? If so ... WHY IS IT DESIGNED THIS WAY!? And more importantly, can I do anything to take advantage of my foes complete inability to stand and fight?
