Number one: it was meant as a gameplay thing
Number two: CA loves phraonic egypt so they made it pharonic instead of greek
number three: they made it that way so if people wanted to make a bronze age style mod it would be easier to do so

Well it is somewhat historically accurate. Ptolemy, a general of Alexander took Egypt after Alexander died. He positioned himself as Pharaoh, that's why you see Nile Spearmen in Phalanx formation.
it's an accurate failure. there is nothing accurate about an Egypt still using chariots and such. Ptolomy used the title "Pharoah" to control his people, but he only used Makedonian style forces. In fact the Phalangite Phalanx was standard for Ptolomaic Egypt, not an advanced warfare that came only near the end. The were displayed as "Pharonic" because if it were accurate, then entire middle-east would be like fighting one large group (which it would really have been in real life), and that would get boring.
Still doesn't make it accurate. The court's culture was Greek, and the army was *at all times* composed of settled Macedonians & Greeks. The one time Egyptians were drafted into the army led to a victory at first (Raphia), but a revolt later.
Oh. Well somewhat accurate then.
...because they thought they need to give egypt a chance to counter: screeching women - burning pigs - roman ninjas and british headhurlaz'
:edit - btw while we're at questions and theories what makes me curious about is:
Why is it that the OP's name is 'Pharoah' while in the title of the thread it says 'pharonic'
and then in the opening post it says 'phraonic' and 'pharaonic'?- any theories

stupid spelling mistakes my bad i was having a sugar rush at the time this thread was created
and sometimes i type fast
I would guess they did it for diversoty reasons. The majority of people who bought this game probably do not know that Egypt was ruled by greeks. If the made it realistic, the roster would be similar to SE and Macedon. Depicting egypt as they were in the old days creates a faction that is different, which adds more replay value to the game.
I like my Pharoh's bowmen though, especially their gold plated armor![]()

I never said that i do auto-resolve battles - i only said that many people are playing that
game for the sake of campaign and are not so eager for the battles as you stated.
I for myself am for the battles - but i prefer multiplayer because ai is not really a challenge at all.

Because RTW is better.![]()
well no ofense for the people who don't enjoy the battles and auto-resolve all of them, but why are they playing the game then ? they are missing the whole point of the game IMO, you don't see those huge epic battles with thousands of men on the battlefield in games like Age of Empires, Empire Earth, Age of Mythology, C&C series etc. ; but you can build stuff etc. in all those games

I can imagine that they want to play the game like the old "Risk" game - just being
a bit more complex than moving an army onto another terretory and having to roll dices
to fight their battles.
To be honest; in times of the first Shogun Total War i've had a similar opinion about that
game aswell and i considered the battles on the battlemap as a little bit too much to me
to enjoy the campaign and it lasted that way for a few releases of Total War games on.
It took me to find it out the youtube way to realize that the battle map is so what fantastic
that i want to bite me into that body part we are using to sit on that i've been missing that
part of the game until Empire Total War has been released.

I believe it was because they felt there were enough phalangite nations in the game and they wanted to mix the campaign gameplay up quite a bit.
If you've transcended your facticity, congratulations. You're 3 transcendences from HoS.
