Over the years I've received several requests for a map that once was was previewed by a now defunct RTR team I was a member of for a while.
Well, here it is.

I actually don't want to say more on the matter so to prevent future queries I'll answer some questions once and for all here:

1) Why did RTR abandon this map?
I was asked to create this map by a team that's long gone now. As a mapper, this was my learning project. There are issues with this map that led me to argue within the team for abandoning it. The biggest concern at the time was the layout of the regions map. Another is the fact that the large geographic extent could only be achieved by compressing the terrain to fit the hardcoded limits on map size, which leads to serious degradation of the quality of the map. Something you'll find out when you try to put roads and settlements on it.

2) Where is the regions map?
There are two reasons not to include the regions map. Firstly it represents a body of research the team might want to use in the future. Secondly, the research just does not fit the layout of the map (see above). If you want to make a badly laid out regions map of your own, I won't stop you, but you can't use our badly laid out map . I have included a template map of the correct proportions showing the distribution of land and sea that can be used as a basis.

3) What's with the odd climate layout?
The map uses the same climate layout as RTR VII (just not as well).

4) Where's map_heights.tga.
There is no map_heights.tga. Elevation data is contained in map_heights.hgt. Perhaps there's a converter out there somewhere. Perhaps not, in which case you're stuck with this. I'm not withholding a tga btw. I designed the heights directly in the hgt format.

5) what are the terms of use?
Free to use, provided credit is given to RTR.

6) where can I get support for implementing this map?
This post contains all the support you'll get from me I'm afraid. It was abandoned for good reason and is only made available because some people asked for it.
