Default Lithuania Early Campaign - can't train advanced units, period.

    Hello all,
Maybe I'm missing something here I'm playing as Lithuania, and have just destroyed Poland and secured alliances with Novgorad and Kiev to protect my Eastern front. It is turn 38.

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to recruit advanced cavalry like Noble Sons and Lithuanian Noble Cav. I have my prince (who is a war council member and has a professional training staff) in a castle settlement (Thorn) and he's been there 3 turns now. The counter for the Noble Sons and Noble Cav has not gone down. It's stuck at 9. The Ducal Spearmen and Ducal Axe counter is going down, just not the nobles. Professional Recruitment order is out.

I am running SS 6.4 with Byg's Grim Reality IV and RR/RC. If I'm not mistaken I'm playing Gracul's AI, but I'm not positive about that.

If my general is a war council member with a professional training staff, shouldn't he be able to train any unit in the game? It says my Prince has "Average Recruitment Ability". But it also says that on my Faction Leader himself, who also has a professional training staff.

I don't understand what I can do differently. Is religion the factor here? Since I'm pagan faction, my faction religion is low in Thorn. I have a priest there but it's only 39% pagan. Do I have to raise it to 75% before the Noble counters will tick down?

    Thanks in advance!

Depending on the size of your empire you might need 90% Pagan religion to train certain troops though I thought it would be the same for Noble's Sons and Ducal infantry... Also if you just captured the region it takes awhile for the recruitment pool to fill enough for the counter to start going down. It is a waste of your Prince staying in Thorn that many turns- pass his PST and WC to someone else, although be careful to pass the FL's WC off if you have less than 3 since Prince will need 1 WC to attack into foreign lands. The FL regenerates WC and PST if you need more and have less than the max amount.

Thanks for that tidbit at the end, I didn't know that. It's a useful tip since I've run into that situation before and wasn't sure what happened in another game.

...and download the PDF instructions on post no. 2 of the bgr thread. Within that either refer to the chart or search "recruitment ability" or "zeal".

This information is also available in the game if you mouse over the zeal trait on a general.

Thanks for the BGR tip, I downloaded the manual and it's full of info. I learned how to order scutage from it too. Most of my generals are very rich, so good to know!

    Thanks!
