another reason to hate the mongols.

For some reason the mongols who share their only ally with me decided to make its way through their own enemys territory (novgorod) to one of my citys with 3 stacks. they havnt attacked yet but its obvious they will and when they made way to my city i attacked their enemy (novgorod) around the same time. All these factors should be reason enough for them not to randomly come after me but mongols dont need strategy. Has this happened to anyone else? Ill late era kiev

Fear the mongols for they are gods on horseback. Use stakes at city gates from archers. Unfortunately no ukrainian archer can plant stakes but some mercanaries can and if you have real recruitment other archer units from conquered settlements can. Make javelin men and have them behind your infantry. Try to stymie them at the gate where the tar and stakes can do their work. You will take heavy losses as their arrows will rain down over the walls from the outside and onto you but its the only method I know that sometimes work. For the most part I try to ride out their invasion knowing that I will lose territories regardless. By all means avoid open field battles unless you know for sure you can win. The computer AI will always target the human player first and foremost. Good luck.

I remember playing as the Roman Empire and the Mongols attacked Diyabker (something like that), my farthest castle in the east, and they came with a lot of trebuchets unfortunately. Smashed through my castle walls and nearly all their cavalry came through the hole in my wall. I had a number of Scoutatoi but they still plowed through them and my other units. Lost the castle but it was a nice fight; love fighting the mongols until all their reinforcements and armies dry up in which they no longer pose a threat due to massive debt.

Never liked how the ai could run any and all of their calv through holes or gates and just chew up infantry with their numbers. every time i throw all my calv into a city they are almost always repulsed by lesser stacks.

I'm guessing it depends on how heavy your cavalry are. Turgahuts are pretty nice and nearly all the time they're the ones that push through my scoutatoi and slaughter them. Lighter cavalry can come through too but most of the time they won't deal much damage to my units.
