Anton's "Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji" and "Eight Views of Omi" Loading Screens!

Mod Information

It's no secret that there is a bit of waiting involved whilst playing Shogun 2. The vanilla loading screens are pretty good to look at, but there are hardly a diverse amount of them. There are a few mods that help with this, but only adding four images seems to draw the same boredom problem after a short while. It became apparent to me that more than four could be used, thus my mind began to wander. I thought a great base for a loading screen mod would be the fugaku sanjurokkei ukiyo-e prints by Katsushika Hokusai, maybe a bit better known to the english-speaking world as the 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji'. There are actually 46 prints to his set, thirty-six of them being the original set - hence 'thirty-six views...' - and the remaining ten being added on after it became fairly popular.

The mod currently adds 36 new loading screens. This is on top of the four already present, so it should be compatible with all other loading screen mods. I am intending to upload an addendum mod containing the 10 additional prints. I am thinking of overwriting the vanilla loading screens with four of these additional prints. If you think I shouldn't do that, let me know.


I'm figuring this may come up, so I'll beat everyone to it. All loading screens have an equal chance at showing up, as they are randomly used. The thing is, there may be a few unlucky people that have the same loading screen show up again and again and again. This is not because the mod is somehow bugged; you were just unlucky. But don't reject it. Be proud of it. Write in your signature that you witnessed something that had a generally low chance of happening!

The mod is a fairly hefty 34.1mb when compressed, so I uploaded it to multiupload. The .pack file is in a .rar file. Extract it to S2's data folder and enjoy!

An Addendum!

I have made that 10-screen addendum mod I noted above. With this, the set is complete!

An important note: there are two versions. The .pack file inside "Antons_Views_of_Fuji_Addendum.rar" knocks out the four vanilla loading screens. The .pack file inside "Antons_Views_of_Fuji_Addendum_Alt.rar" allows the four vanilla loading screens to be shown in conjunction with the ten new loading screens.

Extract ONLY ONE of these 'addendum' .pack files from either one of the .rar files to S2's data folder. More importantly, enjoy!

'Eight Views of Omi' Loading Screen Pack

My first major addendum to the 'thirty-six views of Mt. Fuji' loading screens is, as noted above, the eight views of Omi. The set was created by Utagawa Hiroshige and was one of his most famous sets.

The .pack file is inside "Eight_Views_of_Omi.rar", attached below. Extract it to S2's data folder.

The 'eight views of Omi' pack will work with the 'thirty-six views of Mt. Fuji' set and one of the addendum packs (do not use both addendum packs at once).

Also: I have not personally tested the loading screens. In any case, do let me know whether they did or did not work for you and, if the latter is that case, I'll fix it right up .

Recommended Mods & General Info/Humour

While there will be many mix-and-match combinations with this and other mods, I recommend using this mod with JustSpectre's "Samurai Battles Loading Screens" mod found here. With our mods combined, you'll be begging for the game to load .

To note, the collection of images is well into the public domain now, so the mod won't be taken down for any copyright reasons! They aren't ukiyo-e sex triptychs so it won't be taken down for that either .

Great stuff ! The more loading screens the better because even the most beautiful screens get boaring after a short time if there are only four of them . Just hoping you don`t implement Tom Cruise in
samurai armour or Hello Kitty nonsense .

Yeah. Some very nice art. I'm not sure what Hokusai was thinking when he rampantly added men's arses in a bunch of images, on top of what looks to be an outbreak of anorexia. I suppose some didn't fully adapt to a rice diet .

I have made a stand-alone addition. The stand-alone mod adds 10 new loading screens (the 10 images added to the original 36 after they became popular) and also knocks out S2's vanilla loading screens. It is completely compatible with the original mod. If, for some reason, you think 36 additional loading screens is too much, you should consider using this mod, as it contains a smaller amount of loading screens. It is attached to the first post in this thread.

I was also thinking of re-working this mod to cover land and naval battle loading screens. My only concern is that significant chunks of the image will be over-written .
