    Default Civil War coming early???

As some of you know from the other thread, I'm currently playing as the Brutii. I cancelled my alliance with the Greek Cities and took Rhodes (Colossus = best Wonder ever) so all they have left is Syracuse. After I attacked the Greeks, the Scipii, their ally, cancelled their alliance with me, so their only allies now are the Senate and Greek Cities. The Senate wants me to make the Greeks a protectorate, but I'm planning on just conquering them outright. However if I attack the Scipii, will the Senate and Julii both attack me? I know the Senate has to demand you kill your faction leader to officially start it, but can I attack the Scipii without triggering a civil war?

It's really, really tempting too, because all they have is Capua and Messana and just one half stack army.

You can't, you need t have enough popularity to start the civil war, and if you do not have enough you won't be able to attack the scipii.

If you are more powerful then do whatever the **** you want. I was ina similar situation as the Julii in 265BC (yes, that early) and attacked everyone and won easily.

If you haven't refused to kill your faction leader yet it should be impossible to attack another Roman faction.

Save game, then attack them. If it doesn't work, load. It's sort of cheating, but...

Well, in my game Scipii allied with Gaul, I attacked Gaul and Scipii sided with Gaul. So we became neautral and I am pretty sure I was able to attack Scipii. It was allowing me to, I think, but that game was like a really long time ago so my memory may be blurred.

I believe you aren't able to attack any Roman factions until the Senate intiates war.
PS-Why does everyone sday that you have to refuse to kill your faction leader to start the civil war?? I have never even been told by the Senate to assasinate my leader, ever. Usually they just delcare me an outlaw.

Sometimes they will tell your faction leader to commit suicide, but not all the time. Not killing him is seen as a direct defiance to Senate rule and that is why Civil War breaks out. Accepting there demand will kill your faction leader, and put you in their good graces- maybe. I learned the hard way.

I killed my leader at least 6 times before I realised I was meant to keep him alive...

    That was unbelievable.
If you are popular enough among the people, there would appear a notice" March to Power", then you can attack any other roman factions.

send an assassin to assassinate a scipii family member, which you know will fail. This will trigger the senate delcaring you an outlaw. It worked for me anyway.

That's interesting, because I've found a Scipii spies in some of my cities, but I haven't acted on the Scipii militarily yet.
