    Hello all,

    Problem I have is my mods don't seem to be taking affect in any way in the game.

    I've downloaded the latest PackFileManager, opened up patch2.pack saved this to my desktop as mod.pack. I 've then moved mod.pack into the Shogun 2 data directory (on my computer - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\total war shogun 2\data )

    I've edited the user.script at (on my computer C:\Users\Andrew\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Shogun2\scripts ) using notepad with following line:

    mod "mod.pack";

    For testing I changed some of the stats (morale, charge bonus, armour etc) for light cavalry but these don't show up in a new campaign game.

    Any ideas what I am doing incorrectly?

    I've even tried backing up the patch2.pack and then editing this directly but this also didn't seem to help. Have also tried making mymod.pack into a movie type pack but this caused an error in the PackFileManager.

    Thanks in advacne for any help,

    I'm setting my mods to "movie format" in PFM without any trouble at all. Try using PFM to create the mod you need. You do this by first extracting the files needed from the vanilla setup (preferably from one of the latest patches, but perhaps not the two last - i.e. patch9 or patch10 - as the PFM may not work fully on those yet; also extract preferably to a newly created folder for the modding purpose) and then select "New" from the PFM menu, upon which you are supposed to direct PFM to the folder where you've placed the extracted files. Then you add those files to your mod, do the actual editing there, set the file at "movie format", save it as whatever mod name you wish and exit the PFM. Install that mod into the data folder and start up the game anew. Tell me if this procedure works for you.

    Many thanks foir taking the time to reply.

    Based on the above I decided to try opening patch7 and patch 8 and get the following error:

    "Unhandled exception has occured in your application. .......Click Continue (blah blah) or Quit"

    This table has an unexpected format. It may have changed in the most recent update.

    There is then a scroll box below with exceptions listed relating to the JIT debugger.

    I can open patch2.pack OK but I'm wondering if this is still used in the latest version given that their are similar named db tables in the newer packs? Basically am I editing the correct pack when opening and editing patch2.pack or using that as a basis for making a copy?

    If for argument sake I backed up patch2.pack then edited the orginal patch2.pack file in the game's data folder, removed the read-only flag in PFM and edited this file directly by adjusting one of the units stats directly in:

    patch2.pack -> db -> unit_stats_land_tables -> unit_stats_land

    Should this normally affect the game in a new Campaign?

    Regards,

    Please confirm you are using the current version of PFM, 1.6.7. It is able to open all the files, certainly up through patch9. If you make your pack "movie" type it will be loaded last, and you can be sure your changed values will override anything from a previous patch. If you edit patch2.pack, your changes will probably be ignored since the table you change is probably updated in a later patch.

    hey i got a question then to

    (please dont take offense or troll on me)
    but im really really new to the modding community and trying to mod this one sucks a ton
    i've already changed everything i want on all the patches excluding 9 and 10 because the PFM isnt compatiable with them and of course its not working because S2 is taking its data from the patch 9 and 10 soooooo what do you recommend i do? (right now im doing something easy by making all ashigaru a 0turn recruitment just cause it would make my legendary difficulty game alittle bit faster past.

    so i tried doing the way demos told me and this is wat i did
    first i set my roaming script for shogun 2 with mod.pack then i made a new folder named it shogun 2 modding folder and such after that i got patch 8 copied it to the new folder and did my changes to the pack after saving it and all i went into PFM again went to new and set it for my modding folder and started out with the untitled.pack and right clicked around it went to add file and added the modified patch9.pack to my new PFM folder (i tried interacting with the patch8.pack in my mod.pack but it wouldnt let me and kept asking for a prgram that could read the file even though i was already in PFM) so i just went to choose a pack action and changed it from -release down to -movie thhhennnnn i saved it and just saved it to my S2 modding folder and renamed it mod so it was mod.patch then added it to my data folder in the steam apps
    thats everything i did in a somewhat confusing order sorry about that but please tell me where i went wrong cause still none of my modifcations to the patch were implumented into a new campaign game......

    @ davidlallen : Goodpoint; I thought I wasusing the latest version but checking the tools section I was on version 1.6.5 rather than 1.6.7. I'll repeat with the latest tool and let you know how I get on. A bit of a fundamental oversight :-)

    OK just tried to edit patch 9; opens up fine now; I edited the Takeda spear light cavalry armour from 2 to 8 as a test. Started new campaign as Takeda, built some new light cavalry but armour still reported as 2.

    I'll aso try making my own mod.pack and setting it as a movie type pack and see how I get on.

    Asa bit of an aside I also notice that the CA pack files that I've opened and saved a change to (Patch9) have a little padlock in the bottom left corner of their icon in Windows Explorer now implying their locked? This happens even when PFM has closed. When I try to make changes PFM crashed out a couple of times saying another process was using the file???

    I have the similar problem, it have been a while since I edited Shogun2, the last I did was just shortly before Ikko-Ikki DLC was launched.

    Recently I did the same with the PFM1.6.7 and the new filetables. Could open patch9 and patch10. Edited some stats (morale, unit size etc). Save as a movie, ensure the directory points to the game directory. But somehow, when I view the units in custom battle the stats remain unchanged. It used to be that simple in editing stats, but somehow it was not implemented.

    Is there anyone in the forum that had succeeded in stats update post patch10? Was there any change that we have to adjust to?

    I have been looking through my directory, it seems my problem is a simple one. I made some earlier movie packs within the directory that I did not removed. I just removed them from the directory and add in the new packs (files from patch10, PMF1.6.7 movie file) and it loaded accordingly.

    if i don't patch my game and my latest is patch2, so changing unit stats inside it should work, or do i need to extract unit_stats_land_tables?
