Default Arcs if Fire/ Steady Rate of Fire Help!

When moving my infantry in battle - my arcs of fire get all screwed up - so many times I am being massacred because, even though my unit seems to be facing the right direction, the red arc of fire cone ( i.e the way my troops are firing) is pointing somewhere else. I then have to scramble around trying to turn the arc on the enemy units my troops are supposed to be shooting at. Meanwhile there getting all shot up. Is there any way to keep your troops firing and maintaining the same arc of fire direction after you move them ? I am always losing it appears because I the other player has a steady rate of fire against me and my firing is weak or sporadic because my men are set up to shoot all over the place. So in a firefight I get less of the shots in and my guys run like hell!

Another example is if my unit is firing forward - how can you have them fire behind them without them having them to go through a lengthy turning movement.

This inability to keep a steady fire on the enemy is killing my game - what's the point of having a great infantry if you have some units firing at the enemy while a bunch of the other units are showing arcs of fire facing into the woods.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but the arc of fire is only stable (and correct) once a unit stops moving... Don't try to correct it while it's not in position.
And to fire behind, I think if you just righ-mouse drag, the unit will not turn as a whole, but the individual men will.

Also make sure you are ordering them to face in the proper direction. Dragging left to right they will face forward, dragging right to left they will face backwards.

There are some weird terrain spots on some maps that mean a unit will be unable to complete a move-order. When that happens, the fire arc can face in some totally ass-backward direction, making the unit just sit there like a bunch of idiots instead of returning fire. I've had that happen to me a few times.

Also, light infantry will sometimes just randomly turn around in the middle of a fire-fight (no, skirmishing button was not enabled), which causes its arc of fire to point in the opposite direction of where the enemy is. CA, fix the damned bugs in this game!

That's what I was trying to way - the arcs of fire sometimes move off the directions you are firing - I move the unit correctly and face them correctly but then the arc just shifts!!!
