    Default Easter

Today is Easter, an important Christian holiday.

On Easter Christians around the world celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. According to Christian beliefs Jesus Christ died on the cross on a Friday, around 1770 years ago. He was then entombed in the tomb of a local man who had donated it, believing that Jesus was indeed the Messiah. The Pharisees, a corrupt sect of Judaism, told the Roman Governor, Pontus Pilate, the belief among the disciples of Christ that Jesus would rise from the dead three days after his death and their concern that the disciples would steal the body and spread claims the Jesus had risen. Believing that stories of a resurrected man could lead to unrest in Palestine, Pilate ordered that a boulder be pushed in front of the tomb and sentinels be placed to watch it. Three days later, Mary Magadelene went to the tomb of Jesus to visit it when she noticed the rock gone and the guards missing. After entering the tomb she had discovered that Christ had risen. Over the next few days Christ visited his disciples again and then went up to take his place at the Lord's side. Dieing so others could reach paradise.
“The nation that will insist upon drawing a broad line of demarcation between the fighting man and the thinking man is liable to find its fighting done by fools and its thinking by cowards.”

    —Sir William Francis Butler

The precursor 'according to Christian beliefs' should negate that particular occurance (in an ideal world, at least).

I cannot escape the base assumption, however, that this thread is stating the obvious.

An argument not based on religious lines, at least. Give me some credit.

Now how in the hell is it important to you when it's just another stolen holiday from Paganism, if you want to celebrate a made up holiday go for it, but dont stake claim on it because Christians just ripped it off. This is proven, it's fact, look it up, then explain why you wish to worship on a stolen pagan holiday.

"And I have felt the sudden blow of a nameless wind's cold breath,
And watched the grisly pilgrims go that walk the roads of Death,
And I have seen black valleys gape, abysses in the gloom,
And I have fought the deathless Ape that guards the Doors of Doom."

Yes, because Pagans celebrate the ressurection of Jesus

    Wow, look who's superior suddenly.

Every reasonably well-informed Christian knows that Christian holidays are on fairly arbitrary dates - but does that change what they're celebrating? No, it doesn't. Right now, secularists are "stealing" (according to your definition) Easter from the Christians. Who "stole" it from the pagans. Both arguments are just as ridiculous.

Carlos Mencia said that, and I kind of agree with him. Where did the eggs and bunny idea come from? Really?

Eggs symbolize birth. Christ was "reborn" on Easter.

I thought the empty egg symbolised the empty cave Christ resurrected from.
