Today is Easter, an important Christian holiday.
On Easter Christians around the world celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. According to Christian beliefs Jesus Christ died on the cross on a Friday, around 1770 years ago. He was then entombed in the tomb of a local man who had donated it, believing that Jesus was indeed the Messiah. The Pharisees, a corrupt sect of Judaism, told the Roman Governor, Pontus Pilate, the belief among the disciples of Christ that Jesus would rise from the dead three days after his death and their concern that the disciples would steal the body and spread claims the Jesus had risen. Believing that stories of a resurrected man could lead to unrest in Palestine, Pilate ordered that a boulder be pushed in front of the tomb and sentinels be placed to watch it. Three days later, Mary Magadelene went to the tomb of Jesus to visit it when she noticed the rock gone and the guards missing. After entering the tomb she had discovered that Christ had risen. Over the next few days Christ visited his disciples again and then went up to take his place at the Lord's side. Dieing so others could reach paradise.
