    Default Any way to increase capability for pikes?

    My pikes seem to drop their spears to soon, and you can't use them defensively without them kneeling down. Is their any way to fix this? Also any way to give them bucklers?

    Take away the secondary weapons. This stops them from dropping there pikes and grabbing their swords but makes them unstoppable if used properly. If you want to keep balance in the game, you'll have to tweak the Pikemens stats.

    How? Just delete the part with the secondary weapons?

    I wouldn't do that. It makes them really overpowered even if you drop their stats down.

    A single flank attack would wreck them though.

    AI is dumb. I mean it's really OP against the AI. Against humans it would be fine.

    Would there be a way to make them drop there pikes, but not as soon? Like a phalanx from RTW.

    I remember reading a while back that making pike formations tighter will make it more difficult for enemies to get close, and therefore the pikemen will use their pikes for longer.

    Remove the secondary weapons (the swords) in the EDU.

    find a unit that has no secondary weapon, and copy that line where the Pikemen's 2nd attack line is (their swords).


    Also you can change their formation from square, phalanx .. to simply Phalanx.

    IT makes them extremely strong though.. so I'd recommend maybe some other tweaks --- like putting their armor/defense skill very low, or drastically reducing their attack value.. Or make them a lot more expensive, or make it so in campaign you don't start to get Pike units until way later in the game -- making them harder to get than just wte it is in vanilla...


    I've played around with them sooo much, all sort of things to get them right.. Because in the Mod (Darth mod) i'm playing they came without secondaries and I found them to be overkill...

    Leaving the secondaries on, I just gave them way better stats -- and especially their anti-cav related stats... Eventually tho, I just decided to fresh install the mod and have reverted back to IDDQD (god mode ala doom lol) Pikes. They're still extremely vulnerable to missiles and cavalry from flanks.. so idk, I'd rather have Super pikes than Flaccid ones lol

    Probably a stupid question but whats the EDU? I want to remove the secondary weapons but I'm not sure how. Any help would be great thanks in advance

    I ust tried Prestige's suggestion and HOLY ING THEY'RE AWESOME!!!!!!! Until the crossbows come in(Scottish armored pikes)

    Would you be able to make more than the first two rows lower their pikes? A Macedonian phalanx had the first 5 lower pikes.
