    Default Natural resouce discussion

Ok, we've had some talks of it before but it was never conclusive, but since I'm about to really get down into the buildings we need to start getting this laid down more clearly, as resources obviously interact strongly with buildings.

    A few things to know

    A. The game limit for Resources type is 26

    B. I would suggest that resources that could be mined would come first and formost in priority.

    C. certain resources can be represented with hidden resources (though that means you can't trade them VIA merchants)

Off the top of my head, I would guess the generally commonly traded / mined resourcse would be (in a rough order or importance)

    Gold
    Silver
    Copper
    Coal
    Iron
    Salt
    Horses
    Tea
    Silk
    Procelin
    Timber
    Grains
Livestocks and related stuff like leather
    Textile
    Herbs
    Jade

These are basically no doubters. though for Procelin and/or Textiles they may not neccesarily have to be resources but could be part of buildings.

    Some other stuff to consider

    Cotton
    Fish
    Marbles
    Elephants / Ivory
    Furs

    So suggest / comment away.
1180, an unprecedented period of peace and prosperity in East Asia, it's technology and wealth is the envy of the world. But soon conflict will engulf the entire region with great consequences and lasting effects for centuries to come, not just for this region, but the entire known world, when one man, one people, unites.....

We discussed this back in this thread - comparing it to your list I would so that we agree on the first 21 resources, leaving us five left to choose from the list below.

    1 Gold
    2 Silver
    3 Copper
    4 Coal
    5 Iron
    6 Salt
    7 Horses
    8 Tea
    9 Silk
    10 Porcelin
    11 Timber
    12 Grains
    13 Livestock
    14 Textiles
    15 Herbs
    16 Jade
    17 Cotton
    18 Fish
    20 Elephants / Ivory
    21 Furs

    Rice (same as Grains?)
    Bamboo
    Paper
    Hemp
    Camels
    Slaves
    Steel
    Stone
    Oranges
    Wine
    Saltpetre
    Marble
    Lacquerware
    Sugarcane
    Sulfur

My choice would probably be Camels, Stone, Paper, Sulfur, Sugarcane - but I might be wrong. Concerned that all the resources are Sinocentric - don't know enough about other regions to judge as yet.

A few aspect that could be discussed...

    A. Silver: Am I the only one that can't find much evidence of silver production during this period? most silver seem to have came through the silk road from the west? (as the world's primary production area was in Asia minor and central Europe back then)

    B. Rice: yeah I'm more or less in favor of just grouping Rice and Wheat etc all into just grain to save some spot.

    C. Steel / paper: these were more products of other resources then resource themself, though I guess you could make the same argument on textile, but textile have the advantage of being in many region a pseudo currency.

    D. Slave : was there really a slave "trade" during this period? some faction had slaves more or less but I had thought most came from spoils of war or internal class by birth and not actual "trading" like it was done in the Mid East during this time.

    E. we could loosely group stone and marble into the same catagory and bamboo / timber Lacquer / Ceremics / Porcelin , not totally realistic but for practical limitation purposes ....

So i would probably be infavor of Sugarcane / Stone / Sulfure / Wine / Fruits (Again to widen the definition of resource) / Camel

Ok, I agree about the last five except I know for a fact that there were silver mines in the Shan Hills in Burma, also gemstones (rubies) were mined a lot, so these might be worth including ? Perhaps 'Precious metals' - gold/silver/gemstones ?

alrighty , I have a 3 day weekend comming up so should have time to lay down a lot of work. Resource shouldn't be a problem.. though I probably need to use placeholder for the graphics for now for most of them.
