Default The Never Ending Scottish Family

As England, I thought it would be funny to raise an army of assassins and take out an entire faction. To make sure this would work, I chose Scotland, because they're small. So eventually I assassinated everyone but King and Prince, and they had 5% each success rate. So after recruiting continuously and trying to assassinate, I was left with maybe ten assassins and the king. Proud of myself, next turn I try again, and there's a new prince. I kill him, and I try again at the king, no luck, so next turn I repeat.

Until I realize a strange trend. A small Scottish army (full stack) was standing outside of Edinburgh. Just standing there. Whoever I assassinate, the captain of that army becomes the new prince.

So, fifteen princes later, I give up.

But what's going on? I thought it'd be fun.

Just like it would happen to you in case you were reduced to a heirless faction leader, you would have given the option of adopting someone. That's what happens, they just adopt someone every turn or so, and since there's just 2 people, they become automatically the heirs.

above post is correct, the smaller your family tree is the easier it is to get new family members, works for both you and the AI. in your case, you need to assassinate the king himself after getting rid of the latest heir, that's the only way it'll work.

The rate of family members-cities is to be considered here. The game tries to balance so that you have a family member per two provinces, if I recall correctly. Or it might be a family member per province... Doesn't matter, either way, until that ratio is balanced the game will offer you adoption offers and marriage offers every turn, the difference is that the AI will accept all of them while we would rather choose between them.

And if you were in the AI's case, with just your king, I doubt you wouldn't take up any offers too

I believe it is 1 per province, it certainly seems that way.

I ALWAYS except every adoption of marriage proposal (?!?!) no matter if it's a pox ridden, ruddy, bulbous old sod. After all, it is a fast moving unit of heavy cavalry that can join crusades and recruit mercs.

If you were offered an adoption in turn A, you will likely be offered one in turn B as well unless you did something to get a new family member, so why not be picky and choose the best of the best, instead of all of them? I choose only the best (Young, 2+ chivalry, 3+ command stars, 7+loyalty).

will it seems you haven't started assassinating kings and princess from the start of the game for if you would England should have turned to rebels (it worked with me with the Spanish)

To be honest I just rarely accept adoption offers. I either marry my princesses to the best generals, grow them from a young age when they come of age or recruit them from "Man of the Hour" traits which generally generates pretty good generals. Adoption offers are lacking, at best.
