Definitely. Those factors control the # of family members. The # of settlements = # of family members.
I dont adopt, I prefer to have family members and I dont mind having my daughters get married, but I never adopt
If they have some useful traits and i don't have enough family members to control the army then aye i adopt.

What's wrong with adoption ?For me it's usually necessary .
Yeah idk... I don't see anything wrong with it. Staying pure is a sure way to get rid of your line.
I always adopt but only if they have X command, management or influence usually 3 but it changes during the campign. In one of my Julii campign I have only 2 Julius' left and probably 30+ male FMs
Adopts I always accept. There is little reason not to. Just an extra hero unit for free. I often times fight without heroes just so I can promote some no name guy for adoption.
Marriage with my girls on the other hand I think about. They need at least 3 levels at something before I would consider them.
I even bribe heroes if they are young, decent stats and cost less than 10k.
Only if they are young (say 16 to 35) and have good command or management skills, traits and retinues

I try not to adopt unless it's necessary. I just don't like the idea of a complete stranger suddenly ruling the Empire. But on the other hand, Julius Caesar adopted 2 kids, and Octavian/Augustus ended up ruling it all so it doesn't seem that far out![]()
I do adopt but only when they are young. At least below 30. Then I look at their stats, most of the times I adopt them with 2 command. Less then 2 command is a no go.

Well let's see - getting rid of my ex-wife did cost me €20.000 - having not adopted her daughter
helped me alot there.
On topic:
I like to adopt the man of the hour - and in case of those random adoptions by marriage i tend to go for
younger ones (over 40 i usually deny unless they are worth it).
