I've lost the peninsular campaign playing as Spain, on normal/normal. I was very much surprised, in a positive way, because I've never expected to lose it in the first place. I was doing well, slowly building up the economy, enlarging my army and harassing French supply lines and reserves. I had all of Southern Spain in my hands and had just taken Valencia as it captured by the French. I captured Bedajoz (or something like that), then Salamanca rebelled against the French. The Portuguese captured almost the entire western coast. Only the British were very very passive. By 1813 they had managed to capture two regions but lost them immediately about 2-3 turns later. The British, to my amazement, lose almost every single battle, including naval battles. It's not normal. British are supposed to be superior in the peninsular campaign, especially in naval battles. Then suddenly the French struck. While the whole time I was being successful in keeping the French armies where I wanted to have them, they simply had too much armies. They could go attack anywhere they wanted and I was at no time able to respond to their attacks and defend my cities. So I lost Cordoba and Sevilla, plus the city north of these two. Malaga fell to the French. Badajoz and Salamanca followed, leaving me of course bankrupt. Still I went on and managed to recapture Cordoba and Malaga, and even that city north of Cordoba. Santiago de Compostella was liberated by the Portuguese and Leon captured by the British. I was just getting excited and happy that the odd were turning again in my favour but then a message popped up, asking if I wanted to join the rebels or the government, because a revolution had broken out, a civil war. I joined the government. Result was a spawn of a little Spanish rebel army, that immediately captured Badajoz (which was my capital after the loss of Sevilla) and game over...
Suggestions? Am I doing something wrong?
