    Default 1+1=2 not true

    My sociology teacher prooved 1+1=2 is not really true! We just assumed and agreed that it is true. What do you guys think about it?

    Show me the proof. I assume we are working in the ring of real numbers here? In that ring, it is true by the definition of the binary operation "+" and by the definition of our usual numbers (i.e. the real numbers).
    I believe it was Bertrand Russel who proved that 1+1=2 by starting at the basis of all modern mathematics: Set theory. So I would like to see your sociology teachers proof. Sociologists are usually not mathematicians, so I have my doubts about the proof.

    1+1=2
    No amount of 1984 will actually change that. Humans being wrong does not actually change the laws of reason that govern mathematics.
