the only one who thinks that RTW was the last of the light hearted TW games, I mean I like the look of the newer games and some of the mechanics can be good. But RTW is easy to play intuitive and just a damn good game, that you can enjoy without busting the old grey matter to much... or am I just being a bit of a luddite and need to move with the times

I think Medieval 2 was similar to Rome but unique enough to be as. The new total war games (besides Empire) are just as good in their own way.

Empire got ridiculous. they never tried to ease you into it.
Medieval 2 was pretty much like Rome and then they just completely screwed up the system by adding TOO many new features in Empire.
Its gotten simpler since which is nice

I love the newer TW games because of their increased micro-managing witch is something i enjoy, but i get what you mean, that's why i still play rome and medieval 2 But the new games has increased the width of the series, and so there's a Total War for every situation
