    Default Seleukid reform

    Dear all,

Please allow me to ask a few basic (sorry if they are stupid) questions that, I think, were already (but from the posts I gathered through "search", only partially) answered:

    - How to trigger the Seleukid reform? Indeed, I have read many answers that globally say that you have to lose 2 "large" battles to horse factions (incl. Baktria, Pahlavan, etc.) with 2 different generals, each time with the general unit losing "some" of his numbers during the battle (obviously, not all, as the general must urvive and get the "interested by Cats" trait as a consequence). My questions are very simple: does anyone know what does "large" mean exactly (for the battle?) and how many "some" of his men lost means? I am playing Seleukids, as you can imagine, and I could not so far get the reform.
    - How do I know that the reform has taken place?
    - Do I have to rebuild anything to get the new units?
    - and finally, what are the new units (as per EB1.2?).

Thank you very much for your support. Sorry, I have tried (maybe not efficiently) to get answers through "search" but couldn't find exact, precise answers.

You mean the units you get wit the reform?

Hellenikoi Kataphraktoi is the only unit you'll get from it.

Thank you very much scutarilegion, this was exactly my last question. I asked it because, looking through the forum with the search engine, I noticed that some spoke of the Thoritikai Agema Basilikou (or approx.) as being available through the reform, whilst others were saying that this unit had been renamed and EB1.2, without mentionning if this renamed unit was still available through the reform. So my understanding is that this unit (or renamed one) is not available through the reform, right?
Does anybody have an answer to my other questions?

Thank you, and sorry for my English,

    FFJean

    - Don't really know how large a battle has to be in order to get the general an "inspired by cats" trait. I usually unlock it with cheat (I find it stupid to purposefully loose battles in order to get really nice units).

    - you will know the reform took place when the marker "Kataphratoi reforms" will appear in your towns (in the building slot of the town).

    - No, but for the Kataphraktoi you need 4 lev. factional barracks and for the Thoritikai Agema Basilikou you need the highest, 5 lev. barracks.

    - the units are: Kataphraktoi and Thoritikai Agema Basilikou.

Oh, so that unit get's accessed there too? I got little distracted with the reforms name being "Cataphract reforms".

Well, the Thorakitai Agematos Basilikou are a kind of "Cataphract Infantry" when you think about it, being super-heavy versions of Thorakitai/Hypaspistai/other Hellenic assault infantry units. What I don't know is whether they actually have anything to do with the (mounted) Cataphracts, but then again, considering that the TAB were a late innovation, I think it is in any case reasonable that they are tied to the reforms.

and how do you use the cheat, the console always say it can't find the character, and it's certainly not a typo

    Well, I use the command

    give_trait " * " ImpressedByCats

and it works for me. I unfortunately don't know what might cause your problems.

    *name of the character

As far as the first question goes, its as you say a family member has to loose I think two large battles against a predominately heavy cavalry army- either Saka, Parni or Armenia I think!
You will know, because it will say 'Kataphract reform'
No don't need to build anything, unless of course you don't have the required level of barracks
Peltastai Makedonikoi (Hellenistic Elite Infantry) that's the infantry unit you are referring to

    Dear all,

Thank you for your answers. Although I still would love to know how large these battles must be, I can tell you I already have the reforms (both Helenistic Kats and this Mak Peltastai), so, don't know how, don't know why, but I got it!

    Yours sincerely,

    Dear Rhomphaiaphoros,

I do not get TAB as per my reforms, only cats and Peltastai Maks.

    Yours sincerely,

They were T.A.B in 1.1 and then Peltastai in 1.2

    Sooo....How large?
And How many men must perish?

I think they are still TAB aren't they? Seleucia should have Peltastai and Hypaspist from start, and TAB after reforms.

Anyways, i asked that question long ago, and i think the battles aren't that large... It's important that the enemy army is mostly cavalry IIRC (the engine can't tell the difference between Cata's and regular cavalry), and you general BG has to lose a few men.

You could always change the script! where it says something like " impressed by cats 2" change it to 0, and you'll have them first turn

thks guys my problem was with the name, EB 1.2 has all the AS names in 2 or more words, take Antiochos Syriakos for example, I tried the same command
    give_trait Antiochos_Syriakos ImpressedByCats
    give_trait AntiochosSyriakos ImpressedByCats
    give_trait Antiochos-Syriakos ImpressedByCats
    ...
probably any combination I can imagine, but the console just can't find him, but with one that has a title, like Themidon the Crippled, then give_trait Themidon ImpressedByCats worked just fine, completely confused
