Brief History of Bulgaria

After the fall of the Bulgarian Khanate in 1018, a long period of civil war, strife and bickering began amongst the Bulgar Families, until the Greco-Roman Empire had managed to assert dominance over the bickering families, and essentially destroyed the Bulgarian Khanate. However, in 1095, a Monarch known as Peter IV had reunited the Bulgar Families and freed them from Imperial Rule without bloodshed. However, after contracting a disease near the Greco-Roman border, Peter became sick and died, leaving the throne to Kaloyan, who is known as the Romanslayer due to the legends about him.

When the Serbian Diplomat asks for entry, a guard with particularly bad breath leads him into a room, they strap him down and give him three lashings with a whip before letting him meet the Tsar.

"Just standard protocol, we need to make sure Serbians know their place before meeting the Tsar..."

the Diplomat is lead to the Tsar's throne which, shocklingly, lacks any skulls, bones or the blood of fallen enemies. Don't always believe what you read.

Tsar Kaloyan looks at the diplomat and says plainly, "If you were anyone else from anywhere else but the South, I would say it's a pleasure to meet your company, but that would be a lie. What is your business here?"
