    Default New Campaign

    Hey all,

I've been playing my Roman campaign since SPQR 6.0 came out, and am not done yet, but am going to continue to play it, as well as a new campaign. Now what faction should I play as next? I am going to play on H/H this time around. Also, I like to play as smaller factions, that don't start out with too much territory.

    Peace,
    Adnan

I'd say try playing as the Seleucids. They aren't necessarily small at the beginning but you'll have a tough time against all those factions trying to destroy you.

i agree, thrace start with the least amount of cities and also have a nice variety of barbarians and hoplite troops. also they are sorrounded with large enemies (macedon, greece, dacia and the sarmatians)

    Congrats, on your 100th post.

Anyway, I think I'll play as Thrace. Sid Burn, I've modded a lot before, but now I'm just lazy to mod Numidia back in.

Yeah, Thrace is alright, they are my 2nd favorite non-Roman faction, but I still think Armenia is harder. I have played on VH/VH with Thrace before and had no trouble. This was mostly due to my "Alexander the Great" general with the best troops ever.

i had a great campiagn as the british, u need to mod the boats bk in, and u start with loads of armies u cant afford to upkeep but u got loads of "wonga" at start, great for an invasion hordey styley. Not many build thingy's but u can take over some great temples and add a tavern etc u end up with +6-7 ex units soon enough. I went straight round to africa and set a base up, luv merc elephants, really good fun campaign with soo many options at start, take over euro, move to africa, greece etc.

ps if really want to play as british i recommend u change the warlord to a light chariot instead of hvy. That way ur general wont ambushed in battle [as now it can skirmish] this is important as a chariot will get nailed by anything if caught stationary, plus it makes the best anti cav unit out there, but dont expect to fight well in cities with them.

I believe the much more fitting, and probably the most challenging faction to play, with a very small amount territory, and the weakest faction in the SPQR mod are the... Numidians. I am currently playing as them(difficulty: VH/M) and believe me... it was fun using them. I will post my Numidian campaign someday when I reach 200B.C.

P.S. You have to mod them first though(in descr_stat), and give them the territories currently held by the slaves in africa.

Lixa, how do you play as the British? They're not a playable faction in 6.0 or 6.1. I'd like to play as them and the Spanish too, but I can't figure out how to make them playable. I know how to get their cities back, but I just can't get them back on the menu so I can select them. Any help out there? Thanks.
Well, in descr_stat--there you will find the factions playable and the faction which is unplayable. You simply put the factions you want from unplayable to playable through "cut and paste".

You also must give them some territory if they're a destroyed faction, and if you want to play as the british, you need to give 'em ships.

Thrace is a tough faction to play as, but another good one would be Pontus.

I've tried Pontus, they are challenging, Armenia is fun also, the Parthian cavalry archers are fun to deal with.

Pontus, in my opinion, is so cheap. I just build alot of chariot(70% of my army is made up of chariots. When it comes to siege my army is made up of 60% chariots). I run AI assistance--and any army that opposes me would end up dead.

Plus, I don't know why, but Pontus' armies are very easy to command and have good morale and can win battles with ease, atleast when I'm commanding them.

lol, glad that you noticed also. Seems strange that the A.I would lose their battles with such good armies. Right now I am fighting against Pontus and they are taking a heavy beating against my weak army(im playing as Greek BTW).

i found that when i started a armenian campaign, no one attacked me for over 20 turns! i thought that i would be swamped so i spawned armies of horse archers to defend my self but when noone attacked i decided to screw with parthia. the problem with armenia in my opinion, is that its too easy to fall into the habbit of spawning horse archer armies. im thinking of giving them another try knowing now that i wont be attacked early on. perhaps this time i can hold back with the horse archers and focus more on the inf.

sid, your games must be boring as all hell if you are spawning chariots. its every hard to lose with those guys so cant be much fun.
