    Default Help with Byzantine units

Hey everyone. Just want to say that I have been playing around with this mod and must say it is one of my favorites. I was just wondering if anyone can help me 1) increase the unit size of the Varangian Guard from 122 to 152, 2) be able to buy the Scholae Barracks units in all huge cities (not just Constantinople) and 3) increase the unit size of Spartharii tou Vasileos from 92 to 123. I love playing as the Byzantines (or whatever they are called-Romans, right?), but would like to make these few changes. Thanks.

Go into SS6.3/data/export_descr_unit. Search for the Varangian Guard entry and you will find this.

See the 48 I bolded? Change that to a 60.

I guess you're satisfied King Kull hehe,

Kevin did it again +Rep, as the OP can't do that. You really deserved it bud

Thanks Kevindrosario ! I did everything that you said and so far everything is great. Just a quick question though. For the Scholae Barracks, you said that I should delete "and hidden_resource Constantinople" in "recruit_pool "Scholarii" 0 0.5 2 0 requires factions { byzantium, } and event_counter lateran_council4 1 and hidden_resource Constantinople ". Was it just for that part, or was it ok that I also deleted "and hidden_resource Constantinople" the few times it showed right below it (next to Spartharii tou Vasileos and some other unit)?
Again, the game seems to be working fine, but I know next to nothing about computers and dont want my campaign to get messed up later on. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it!

You can delete "and hidden_resource Constantinople" wherever you want. All that does is make a unit only recruitable in Constantinople. Deleting that bit makes it recruitable anywhere as long as you have met the other requirements.

Will making any of these changes break saved games?

Yes, export_descr_buildings changes are usually SGC.

You have to wait for the unit pools to replenish in the settlements
    they are now recruit-able in.

Does the num of soldiers matter? Can I put 100 soldiers in the varangian unit card? I used to get crashes so I stopped playing with EDU.

Do you mean the number of men in a given unit?
It does, if you try to change, say, Scoutatoi spearmen from having
150 men on huge unit size to 200, you would either
have to restart your campaign or merge your units.

Soldier number in EDU cannot be increased above 100, which is 250 on huge scale. I'm not sure what the max number was in Rome, but perhaps you went over it.

Yeah, unit numbers over 100 was confirmed a while back to cause CTDs in the M2TW engine.
As for Rome, I believe that the max was 60.

Hey everyone. Just wondering if anyone can tell me how to:
    1) Increase the attack of the Berdiche Axmen to 10 and the defence to 16.
    2) Increase the attack of Dismounted Boyars to 9 and the defence to 22.
    3) and for Heavy Boyars, increase the attack to 7, increase the defence to 28, increase the charge to 14, and increase the unit size to 81
So far, the Byzantines and Novgorod are my favorite factions in SS, but I feel in some ways the Russians are too underpowered in some areas such as cavalry. Also, can anyone also tell me how to:
    4) increase the unit size of Latin hand gunners to the normal 150.

Just look in export_descr_unit.txt. At the top of the file there is a guide that tells you what every field in a unit's entry means. You can work out which stats to change to make the edits you want

Actually, I`ve been wondering about the same question lately...
Now, there are, of course, the obvious ones, like Novgorod, Venice etc., but the thing that irks me is that I need to know which settlements that ARE castle-type settlements OR can be transformed into castles, AND are able to reach Citadel level (have more than the standard 2% base growth), exist on the map?

Well, from my experience i suspect every castle and city has the potential to reach the very top level. All you have to do is to decrease squalor as much as possible.
So, the best method is to train a few family members with anti squalor traits and ancillaries (ie: active builder, reasonable ruler, extravagant, architect etc.) Then use them on the field to boost their chivalry releasing the prisoners and you're set.
I use this method all the time and have no problems with citadels. Of course it's time consuming but at the turn #105 (late era) i have quite a few citadels very well developed (Damietta, Acre, Tortosa, Aleppo, Alamut, Caesarea) and at least 10 huge cities as well.
Cities are easier as there is more buildings with health bonus. Oh, if you can get Mason Guild in your castles go for it, helps a lot.
