She seems to speak rather normally. I wonder, does the voice correct itself once one hears ones own inflection, because most deaf people have rather jarring inflection...

I was wondering that too. I've never known a deaf person able to speak so clearly, but then again I don't know that many deaf people.
I like how the nurse asked if her voice sounded loud. How the heck would she know?!?!?

For something like that there's no standard. It's pure opinion. Loud enough that it seems to bother you? Ok, we turn it down. Not loud enough that it seems to bother you? Ok, we leave the volume alone. No biggie.
Though I imagine over the next few weeks there will be 'stress tests' regarding her hearing so they can figure out a safe volume range for the device so that the implant can't damage her ears.

a comment on the video made me a little suspicious. there is one other video on the account. if we assume that the off-screen voice is hers (and this was in 2009), how do you explain it? she seems to mimic what the camera-man is saying twice. how is she able to hear him?

Lip reading, possibly? Or maybe, in actuality, she lost her hearing at some point?

She had been using hearing aid. Now I don't know how exactly the hearing aid works, but IIRC it uses the skull bones to send the signal to the brain and you kind of learn to "hear" this way. The difference is the implant lets her hear just like any other normal human being. If you read her blog, it's even more awesome than the video.

I'm guessing she knew how to lip-read. If she was born deaf then she must've had a lot of time to learn.
Now I wonder what her company's going to do for fun at their annual picnic.

it says she was born deaf. the lip reading is a possibility but look at the angle. her voice is coming from behind the cameraman, unless the cameraman was facing her while filming forward how can she lip read at such an angle?
i'm usually annoyed by conspiracy theories but this just seems fishy. if it is fake, could be a marketing ploy

Even if this video is a fake (don't know and hardly care) situations like this must happen all the time. It's believable.

Plausible. If this is genuine, she must've lost her hearing at some point in life, after having learned to speak (post-lingual deafness).
