RTW half screen

so i cant get the resloution high enough on my laptop. my laptops screen is 1366x768 but RTW only has options for 1200xsomething or 800x600 both leave it with a huge black border.

Change it in the preferences.txt file in the preferences folder.

The entries look like (these are my values):
STRATEGY_RESOLUTION:2560x1600
STRATEGY_MAX_RESOLUTION:2560x1600
BATTLE_RESOLUTION:2560x1600
BATTLE_MAX_RESOLUTION:2560x1600

That is assuming your graphics card or on-board graphics can handle the resolution you want. As you've not posted anything about your system (a dxdiag attached to the post would be useful) that is the only advice I can give.

well its a pretty simple laptop, but it can load COD MW2 and play it with insane lag at that resolution, so i presume RTW will. its a lenovo idea pad z570 i think.

You can't compare a game that is from 2005 to a more recent game. Most features on more recent PCs are wasted - R:TW will only utilize a single core for instance.

Right-click your decktop and click screen resolutions. Which ones are listed?

1280x 720
1200x 600
1024x 768
800x 600

Ones that sound good would be:
1280 x 720
1024 x 768
800 x 600

I have same problem on my lap-top. I tried editing preferences.txt , nothing changes ... still the max resolution is 1024x768 and screen is centered with black borders on each side as native resolution of my 14" Alienware is 1366x768.

When you edited the preferences.txt, did you set it to read-only?
