AI and features questions
Greetings to you all. I used to be a casual RTR 6 gold player, putting in a few turns now and then, expanding the roman empire (I loved the way things seemed to be going in the exact fashion history went, despite my best efforts to make it go off the rails - I attempted to send a boatload of elite troop in Britannia in about 200 BC and got slaughtered by Liburnians on the way
).
One tiny thing which put me down during the roman campaign, and happened in all campaigns there, was the fact that enemy armies would not retrain their troops. They'd retreat to a city where I knew they could reinforce their numbers, but their stacks of soldiers and horsmen remained mauled as they had escaped from the carnage ensued by my forces.
Has this been fixed in the recent RTR?
Another question I have is related to battlefield tactics. In the beginning, maneuvering the troops felt awesome, but after about a hundred fights or so it all went down to extending my lines so that I may envelop the enemy, outflank him with some lighter forces, cause panic in his ranks and then mopping up the whole thing with my heavy cavalry. Other tactic involved attacking and breaking the middle of his battle line, or exploiting and fissure caused by his movement in that setup, once again, outflanking and causing a rout.
This became somewhat boring after a while. Has the battle AI changed with the new RTR, or any of the recent mods for a fact?
I've read the presentation thread and from what I understand, the map is somewhat smaller now with RTR 7.
I intend to try it and another mod, Roma Surrectum. I know this might not be the appropriate place to ask, but can anyone give me a broad picture of both these two lovingly hand-crafted modifications? Again, as I've said, I used to play RTR 6 gold, so you can imagine the difference I might feel in the gaming experience.
Thank you in advance for your advices!

Re: AI and features questions
I'm playing RTR 7 for few days.
About the campaign AI, looks like still the same which the lack of army won't be reinforced by retrain. At first, I try to use "manage everything" to fasten things up and hoping that the AI were smart and retrain the troops automatically at my border settlement. The fact that it doesn't do as expected made me change my mind to do the management myself.
So I assume that it's the original RTW AI fault that they first prioritized on build something, than the rest available money is used for retrain or training. What happen is that the AI doesn't care when the border army lack of troops.
The fun I had is the interesting feature for planning leadership of Rome in RTR 7. Just one question I had in mind. What if I choose to play as non Rome, will the AI do the leadership system as we do?

Re: AI and features questions
Unfortunately, the RTW AI cannot be modded in such a way that it will retrain its units. There is no mod which is able to change that.
The AI won't use the Roman Leadership System, as it won't be able to cope with it like the player. Therefore, this is coded in such a way that it applies to the human player only.
@K.Wiz.: I'd advise you to just try RTR VII. Almost everything has changed since 2006, and the current release offers a very challenging and highly enjoyable gameplay. I don't know about RS II, probably you should just download both of them and then form an opinion about which mod feels the best for you personally.

Re: AI and features questions
So I take it that with the Alexander expansion my enemies will retrain their forces? That would most certainly make it more exciting, and I'll be sure to try both of them.
Have the battlefield tactics changed? Obviously, without fighting an already weakened opponent the all-might "extend, envelop, rout" won't work as well.
Also, thank you for your replies.

Re: AI and features questions
the AI not retraining is a RTW/BI thing. it does retrain with Alex though....
