    Default Problems with RTR

First of all I must say that Rome Total Realism Platinum Edition (which I downloaded a week ago) is far better than the vanilla game. Its almost a new game in fact and I've been hooked on it for the past week.

I'm doing a Sarmatian campaign at the moment after getting bored of playing Rome and Bactria. And I do have some (small) problems with the mod.

    1. The AI is way too aggresive. I mean thats not a bad thing, but I have NEVER been able to make peace with an enemy faction even when they are about to be destroyed or I offer them ridiculous concessions. Being at war with everyone all the time can get a little frustrating when the only way out seems to be eliminate the opposition completely.

    2. Numidia and Parthia always die and Macedon always dominates. I want to fight someone other than Macedon for a change!

I know these are small problems to an otherwise great mod, but is there anyway of sloving these issues that bug me?

I don't really want to edit my game files without knowing what I'm doing...

Thanks for your kind words! First of all, the RTW AI is very aggressive, and unless you use a force-diplomacy submod you will never be able to get peace with an enemy. Macedonia has often been called 'the black death', an effect which hasn't been solved in PE. It's an old mod, work on it stopped around 2006. I suggest you try one of the more up-to-date RTR projects:

    1. Extended Realism is more like PE, with the same map scope and zoom. It adds a lot of cool gameplay and realism things, and really is the mod for you when you want to play sth you're used to.
    2. RTR VII has just come out, and is much more revolutionary. It's zoomed in to a great extend, and has a smaller geographical scope. Its looks are splendid, and the awesome gameplay really offers a new view on the RTW engine.

I suggest that you try them both, and then decide what's the best for you

As Maurits has explained, the current RTR mods we officially support should address many of your issues.

Extended Realism may be categorized as an extension of PE the latest versions make it seem like Platinum Edition was never even used as a base. Its a splendid mod and if your looking for the complete overhaul mod with the same scope, then RTR: Extended Realism is your best bet.

On the other hand, RTRVII aims to create a different scenario in which we address factions on a specific level. The scope is more localized and you're going to find that the geographical playground is drastically different.

You should try both, they're equally enjoyable

Hmmm, I thought RTRPE was the newest version actually

I just bought Barbarian Invasion, because I've wanted to for a while and I see that extended realism needs it to work. So yeah, problem solved

Actually is there a forced diplomacy mini-mod for RTRPE?

I just searched it but I couldn't download the file from rapidshare for some reason >.<

I found this diplomacy guide somewhere I forgot. It stated about something like reputation in RTW diplomatic session.

    http://cicero.modwest.com/writing/RTWDiplomacy.pdf

From that guide, I assume that in H or VH campaign mode we couldn't easily ceasefire with someone else, unless a settlement you got from them before is returned and ceasefire. But if you really outnumber them, you could do try "Become Protectorate" with "Accept or We Will Attack". The step how to do it, you could read on the guide given.

What I have experienced in Vanilla VH mode, surprisingly I see Gaul become Protectorate of Briton when Briton, Germania, and me using Julii all at war with Gaul. What's even odd for me, that Gaul surrender when they still got 4-5 settlements. It seems that when they couldn't relieved at all front and the faction could focus attack and threaten you into surrender, the AI will accept. It seems that the number of "Accept or We Will Attack" thing you have done before is also taken into consideration, check the guide.

Actual fact is that Alliance could be broken easily in H or VH mode. But, you could do the act like Cold War on the bordering area to your Neutral or Ally neighbor. Place spy on your neighbor settlement. Make sure your power on border always at least the same weight as the other side. Sometimes they will try to see your city from the border like preparing for the attack, but they won't engage you and fall back to their city at later time.

RTR Spy mode is really handy in this thing. I love how to manage my border using RTR spy mod, it's realism
Unfortunately the AI isn't that smart yet on using RTR Spy system, if it smart, I guess we could also do some espionage war.
