    Default Merging Units

If I were to have two units. One with 40/60 units and one with 30/60 units, would I be better off merging the two and having one 60/60 and one 10/60? Or having two halved units too keep it a tad equal? Which would be more effective in battle? Using two small units to flank? Or one large unit supported by a small one? Find myself in this situation quite often, never sure whats the better decision.

Hmmm... I only combine units when it's time to replenish them and retrain them. I think that two even units used in flanking maneuvers could be much better than just one units at full strength and one at minimal strength. But that's just me.

Personally I always merge them. I can't stand the idea that 1 of my units in my battle line is weaker than another. If it's not at full strength the enemy could easily break through and crush your formation. Just my opinion though

Merge, but only to the point where I can merge no more without losing a unit. Then the depleted units are sent off to retrain. Merging also means the morale of the unit will be higher(because there are no casualties.) Half units always seem to rout too easily.

Now that i think about it, more damaged units tend to rout quicker. Just gotta do a cost benefit analysis on whether the higher chance of routing is worth the ability to flank with two halves of a unit.

i rarely merge, my armies work in twos, when one is depleted it goes for retraining, then its paired army takes over where the depleted one left off!

I almost always merge, frees up space for new units/mercs and I'd rather have some full strength units and a little dribble unit than a whole bunch of semi damaged units.
