    Hi All,

So I noticed something way cool with my current Grand Campaign as the French. I got a new GFX card recently and it has renewed my love for this game. I can now play with everything maxed and ultra'd and 400-man infantry regiments. <3 I am also playing with Josst/Hedge Knight's UAI 1.0b file which gives you a campaign difficulty setting one "louder" than very hard (bad Spinal Tap joke, I know)

Anyway, I had at least 25 Major Battle markers on my map of Europe, no exaggeration. You know, the little crossed swords left on the map with some minor battle info. The AI has stack after stack after stack, making for some enormous fights. Usually these are named for the town or city nearest the battle. When a marker is already present named after a particular town, the game will revert to naming the battle after the region (as it will do when no town is close by).

So yesterday I am playing, and I get another one of these after fighting the Prussians just west of Konigsberg. to my suprise I had not just fought the Battle of Konigsberg, but rather the Battle of Eylau!

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Nothing about my battle resembled Eylau to be sure, save from the location on the campaign map, but it was really a treat to see a nice little touch like that put in the game.

Presumably there are other historical battle names that are out there, waiting to be found. Has anyone else seen one? Pics?

    Hi

This happened to me too. I defeated 2 full stacks of Austrians with best of my french troops led by Napoleon somewhere in Danube Valley. Actually i did not noticed it for few turns. Then i was quite surprised by that i fought at Wagram. Too bad i did not screened it :/
I wonder if it is possible to somehow ,,get marks,, of major battles like Austerlitz, Waterloo, Eylau etc. during one campaing...

I got the battle of Ligny when fighting the British close to Reims.

I've only seen Borodino, and that was from a scripted Russian army attacking me as I neared Moscow. I'd like to see some more.

I want to quickly check if any of my battles fought in Holland are named Waterloo, though that's rather in Belgium.

    Anyway nice find!

From the top of my mind, i can confirm that for

    • Waterloo
    • Borodino
    • Ligny
    • Berezina
    • Eylau
    • Jena
    • Aspern-Essling
    • Wagram
    • Eckmühl
    • Ulm
    • Landshut

I started hunting for those after literally squealing with joy after discovering the first historically named battle marker - can deliver screenshots if needed. They are all fairly close to their historic location e.g. Berezina north of Minsk, Waterloo south of Brussels and so on.

The one exeption haunting me is Austerlitz - should be a little south of Brünn, but the only time it showed up for me was somewhere in the Netherlands...

Ahh! I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one!

I am on the hunt as well, though my current campaign wont see fighting in many of these areas. On my next campaign I will purposefully leave armies at these locations to try to get the markers. Obviously the complete list of battles can be be pulled from the databases somewhere... but there's no fun in that. I'd love to research each battle and try to trigger them naturally.

Any screenshots you have would be rad, I'd love to see them!

You're definitly not the only one, tbh i kinda obsessed over this campaign - though it's the only one i saw through to the end... whenever i tried to open the battle locations with the PFM i got an error message, so these were gained by trial and error. 12 all in all, i sized them down a little.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Waterloo

    Aspern-Essling

    Berezina

    Borodino

    Eckmuehl

    Eylau

    Landshut

    Ligny

    Marengo

    Novi

    Ulm

    Wagram

All other markers are named for the nearest town or the province. As far as i know, a battle between two full-stack armies gives a marker. Go get 'em!

Omg, you went to the trouble to screenie and crop them all?!? Wow mate, thats great!

More rep to you when I can, fine sir!

What is interesting to me is the defined area which will trigger the historical battle name to be placed.
Check out my 3 second photoshop overlaying of our 2 Eylau screenshots. You can see that there is quite the area that will grant you the Eylau battle name. I wonder how big each area is, or if they are different sizes... Oh, wait you guys both posted Ligny too, I'll look at that one now...

I always get such swords in the campaign map, when my army defeat a stronger enemy army.

So then why couldn't I ever get the Battle of the Pyramids? Instead I just got the Battle of Cairo or some such and the map was just desert but not Pyramids.
