Default Is anyone getting low FPS even with a good computer?

I am getting very low frame rates when playing this game.

Quick specs: Intel I5-2400 @3.10Gz, 4GB of RAM, 64-bit Windows 7, and Nvidia GeForce 560ti.

For some reason I am having FPS issues even when all settings are turned on low. The only thing I left on high is the Unit Size, which is huge. This is very strange because I never had problems with previous Rome Total War mods and I can play Shogun 2 at near max. I feel like there is something I did wrong because I believe my computer is good enough to handle this mod and game. Any ideas and help would be appreciated.

Lower, not low. 20 in really large battles, 30-40 is the usual. And that's on a 4-5 year old PC

In terms of CPU the RTW engine is all single thread so with enough men it'll still bottleneck in newer Multicore CPU's

In terms of GPU, try just turning the grass completely off. This has been known to cause problems.

^And vegetation to medium while you're at it. It's not noticeable and increases performance a lot.

not needed, just turn off gloss maps , it doesnt do anything . and makes things alot faster when u turn it off. I speak frokm experience, when i used to soom in close to units it used to lag slow frame rate. i closed gloss ran perfectly.

Actually, gloss maps handle the reflections present on helmets and shield bosses. Turning them off will turn off the reflections.
Not that it's that noticeable, I agree on that.

I get low fps in battles. My pc is good in many other mods but in RTR7 (GC), even in low-medium settings, there is not enough fps to play well, I saw 10 fps sometimes with 3000 soldiers in action. IMHO units have more polygons than other mods so it causes low fps.

    My PC specs: Corei7 920, HD6850 1GB, 12GB DDR3

    Is there a solution?

    Edit:
I also noticed that I get low fps when I move the camera fastly in battles.

When you can't even play it using an i7 processor and 12GB memory there really is an issue... Maybe be the problem with these new processors is that RTW only uses one core?

Yes, RTW uses one core, it is well known. But, I don't think it is CPU or memory related. It must be GPU related.

For what it's worth, the detail settings for battlemap vegetation are shifted by about one step. So what used to be "high" in vanilla is "medium" in VII.
