    Default Populations

Populations in this game a ridiculously inflated. I suggest several changes (feel free to correct me if I get the populations wrong for the time period):

    Britannia: 8 million > 6.5 million
    Georgia: 3 million > 3.5 million
    Khazaria: ? > 4 million
    Abassids: 8.3 million > 7 million
    GRE: 10 million > 8 million
    Serbia: 7 million > 4.5 million
    Portugal: ? > 5 million
    Scandinavia: 7 million > 5.5 million

Those not mentioned should (IMO) stay as they are.

Honestly, I agree, but if we do this I'm also cutting military costs in half, as first of all even with these pops we're nowhere near the historical army numbers, and second of all I sincerely doubt everyone wants to redo their army.

Erm what? You can't back your points with history, armies in this game are way too big. William the Conqueror destroyed the saxns with 20,000 men. The entire crusading army in the First Crusade was only about 30,000 men.

It was not difficult for me to redo my army to be honest, Drop legio IV Auxillia and the 1,000,000 in defences and I drop my expenditure by 1.9 million. Of course it would be easier for me and you because we have split our armies into legions allowing us to dispand a large portion of our army without confusing people. What if you just half the upkeep?

Maybe, but I'd prefer to halve the whole land unit cost. Not naval, that's already cheap as it is.

I'm thinking of later historical armies. Regardless, I still think that making EVERYONE redo their pop and military is ridiculous.

How about this: There will be no population growth AT ALL for the first 20 turns. That should balance it.

Look, there is very little people would have to do to get in line with this, Martin has already done his.

I'm not willing to redo mine, and I doubt that others will be. We've fiddled with populations too much, I say this is it, too bad if you don't like it. In the future we'll be sure to use better pops.

    Lulz.

Seriously, it's not to bother you, I just really don't have time to redo everything, and honestly I like my army just the way it is. I seriously don't think it's worth it. I have a country that shouldn't exist, can't I just say that people started making 1.5 kids every year for 500 years?

If I may put in my 2c, I think that populations should be drastically reduced. Why? If every nation had those large (and in smaller nations' cases, dense) populations, disease would be widespread and wipe out much of the population, without the medical advances and requirements to maintain populations. I personally believe that only nations like Britain, France, and Koln should have 2-3 mil, with nations like Portugal, Nabudis and Georgia having about a 1 mil. So on and so forth, these would also help create more realistic militiaries, as nations very rarely had standing armies at all at this time.

I am not making any demands for change, these are just my observations and two cents.

And Arthur, I think just about everyone but you is willing to redo their pops.

This is the army I can make with 1 million(okay, not even that. 700,000 as i had to deduct 300,000 for the 75 ships)
    Army of the Islands-
    500 Royal Guard (Elite/Archer Infantry)
    1,200 Marines(Guard/Archer- Infantry)
    1,500 Berber Corsairs (Soldier/Medium Infantry)
    2,500 Archers (Recruit/Archer)
    1,000 Corsican Pikemen (Professional/Pikemen)
    1,000 Mercenary Swordsmen (Veteran/Heavy Infantry
    500 Island Cavalry (Soldier/Light Cav)
    3,000 Baleric Javelinmen (Recruit/Light Infantry)
    4,000 Berber Infantry (Soldier/Spearmen)
    300 Zenaga Cavalry (Veteran/Horse Archer)
    500 Sardinian Archers (Veteran/Archers)
    3,000 Island Kingdom Infantry (Soldier/Archer-Infantry)

I have 2,650,000 for the North and 1,650,000 to spend for the South still. Say I get triple the Island amount for the North and double it for the South. A total of 141,000 troops. Kind of odd in this time, imo...unless one was playing as China..

    Population of the Greco-Roman Empire

Ok, if I do not get granted more land in the east then my population will drop to 5 million (assuming everyone else drops theirs too). If i get control of Western Anatolia then my population should be close to 10 million as you can see by these:

(1170 is closer to what land I will have if I get Western Anatolia at the start so my population would be based on the population at 1143)

Dude, that's smaller than the 600s game... That makes no sense...

Here's my logic. Most nations had 1-3 million by the end of the 600s game. That rose from 200,000-500,000 in twenty years, so logically after five hundred years it would be at least 5 mil, and that's factoring in a massive population loss. Continuing at that rate, we would be in the 20,000,000s.

I'll average and tell you a precise number n a sec.

Population growth in the medieval era and dark ages was practically 0. You are using a flaw in the old game as a reason, which is a problem.

Smaller or not that is what the population is for the Greco-Roman Empire. If I own Western Anatolia than between 8 and 10 million, if not then I will go with between 5 and 6 million.
