Hi! I have a question: What culture would Dunland have in the game ... Northmen?
Thanks for the quick answer![]()
Its the only evil faction that its a diferent culture of the other lovers of melkor.. im still dont knowing how it works
religion culture is followers of Melkor like all evil factions, building culture is northmen like Eriador, Rohan and Dale
I think the Northmen culture should be renamed as Atani culture or Middle Men culture; Northmen term applies only to the people of Rhovanion and Rohan....
While Northmen as term was given to the peoples in the region of Rhovanion indeed, they were at least kindred to the people in Eriador as well, all decendants to the same forefathers as the dúnedain*. Dunland is also part of this kindred folkbransch IIRC, to the people of Haleth, though not Northmen; least in Bree the Men were mingled dunland-northmenkin(-and some dúnedain decendants perhaps?).
While Dunland should have its own culture considering that - perhaps the same as the Hillmen of former Angmar would have had if they were a faction - and not the same as Dale, Rohan nor Eriador.
That they do not have it is a matter of time and work IRL
*This is from the first (?) encounter between Númenorians and Men of ME.
[to the] Númenóreans came twelve Men only out of Eriador, Men of high heart and courage, for most of their people feared that the newcomers were perilous spirits of the Dead. But when they looked on the shipmen fear left them, though for a while they stood silent in awe; for mighty as they were themselves accounted among their kin, the shipmen resembled rather Elvish lords than mortal Men in bearing and apparel. Nonetheless they felt no doubt of their ancient kinship; and likewise the shipmen looked with glad surprise upon the Men of Middle-earth, for it had been believed in Númenor that the Men left behind were descended from the evil Men who in the last days of the war against Morgoth had been summoned by him out of the East. But now they looked upon faces free from the Shadow and Men who could have walked in Númenor and not been thought aliens save in their clothes and their arms. Then suddenly, after the silence, both the Númenóreans and the Men of Eriador spoke words of welcome and greeting in their own tongues, as if addressing friends and kinsmen after a long parting. At first they were disappointed, for neither side could understand the other; but when they mingled in friendship they found that they shared very many words still clearly recognisable, and others that could be understood with attention, and they were able to converse haltingly about simple matters.... [These] Men dwelt about Lake Evendim, in the North Downs and the Weather Hills, and in the lands between as far as the Brandywine, west of which they often wandered though they did not dwell there. They were friendly with the Elves, though they held them in awe; and they feared the Sea and would not look upon it. It appears that they were in origin Men of the same stock as the Peoples of Bëor and Hador who had not crossed the Blue Mountains into Beleriand during the First Age.

True indeed, but there isn't a single term that applies to all Edain-related people, so I proposed Atani. The best solution would be a Gwaithirim culture for them, but we have already reached the culture limit.
As for Men of Angmar, I have seen 2 cases: Either they being Gwaithirim, as the Men of the Barrow Downs (ancestors of Breemen maybe) and Wildmen of Eryn Vorn were, or Easterlings that escaped the ruin of Beleriand, as Lossoth. ( I can't remember from where exactly in HoME I had read the latter)
they worship melkor in FROME, does koul plan on altering this?
well initialy we thought of having dunland
as a faction that when controled by Player
could via script in the begining decide its religion
My scripting skills were back then limited to none
so due to the absence of our main scripter
(Aikanar....) we didnt proceed....
I may now have some scripting skills(or at least i dont have none anymore)
but i never looked back on this....
so i really cant predict what actually we will be doing here
as for their religion(if we eventually decide to change anything at all)
ConcurA renamed Northmen could be done easily I assume, but again someone has to take time to do it ^^
Yes, read that too but havent been able to spot where for some time now![]()

Dunlendings were related to the cursed ppl from Dunharrow, the army of the dead
Well due to them being men (even if not so wellhearted ones)
in frome we decided to at least have them under northmen culture
But that was not excactly dictated by the lore aspect of it but
it was by the visuall aspect of it...
i mean that granting smth else would have its whole visual
settings set on a mode not very proper
I am meaning control panels/building and roster tree screen / buttons and UI in general
so we deliberately made them northmen so to have them look like
rohan as for Ui and gave them the melkorish faction's features just as the rest of the evil
If we had them otherwise they would either share the Orcish factions UI(oog, oomm, isengard, mordor)
or the easterlings' one(rhun , harad) but none of them looked suitable or at least not better than the
northmen....
I assume as well that it may be possible to rename the culture
even if it stays as is right now (northmen visually) via text
no
I think this submod can be helpful if you want to implement a similar script for dunland.
