Default the pope loves money ?

almost everytime when i play m2tw i will sign an alliance with the pope . Thus moving the piety favor rating from the pope to a very high status . At the time being i will be training the max numbers of priest i can have , increasing my chances of entering the college of cardinals whenever a cardinal dies . The increase level of favor rating increases the chances of my priest getting selected into the college.

When the pope himself dies, my chances of my own cardinals being elected pope is far greater when i staff the college of cardinals with mainly my own guyz .

So , whenever a nation wages war against me , that nation leader will be in a very bad favor from the pope. In the end , i will be able to ask the pope himself to announce a crusade against them .

BUT , the funny part is that i can just simply bribe the pope with 10k florins to increase my favor rating
The bad part of this strategy is that i relied too much on diplomacy rather than real fighting ..

At the time, Rome (and London I think) were the two richest cities in the world.
Most of the wealth in the world was because of the Pope, people put the church before themselves when it came to money.
    The church is not taxed.
Today in reality, the church is still rich.

That depends very much on what exactly "at the time" is supposed to mean...
Majority of the Medieval era? Not London, then, not by a long shot - try Constantinople, or the grand cities of the Caliphate, Mughal Empire or China...
London didn´t grow into a very wealthy and prosperous city until the Renaissance days, and even then at least I wouldn´t say it truly blossomed until the industrial revolution. It did boast a pretty big population, but still wasn´t exactly among the top 10 cities of the WORLD.

On topic: Using a combination of your tactics - that is, stuffing the College full of your own cardinals to ensure papal favor AND gifting the Pope money on a constant basis to keep the favor at Perfect - is my favorite strategy as catholic factions.
I always make an alliance early, and try to help the Pope if he gets in trouble, as well as building improved churches, sending priests into non-christian lands to convert the populace and dedicating myself to his missions quickly and effectively.
The higher your papal favor is, the more likely he is to accept your requests for crusades, so I try to keep it at perfect or close by.

I think he meant present day. But I am still a bit thoughtful if that would be correct, but of course, as always, there are countless of variations you can measure stuff with

But it is not only the pope you can bribe for a better relationship, that goes for all factions. (Which you are allied with at least)

If we go by in Europe, it would be Rome and Paris. after the move to Avignon, Rome became one of the poorest cities in europe, since it didn't have any other buisness besides the church.

After Avignon, it would have probably been Paris and Milan.

Let's be honest, the RC church at the time was hardly a bastion of piety

Who doesn't like money? I'd take 10k if I was offered it.
