    Default monitor info

i have a flat screen from dell and i am not sure if it is right to put it on 75 . It is on 60 at the moment and it hurts my eyes when i play afters a couple of minutes. If i do it, is it gonna affect my computer and end up with some bugs, what is the bad thing that may happen if i put it on 75 and not 60 ?

It shouldn't be any problem at all with 70Hz. Just make sure you have "Only display supported modes" (or whatever it's called on an English OS) checked.

In general anything below 75hz is apparently noticeable.
For me anything below 70 hurts my eyes.

True.. were it not that flatscreens don't work that way. Every pixel in a flatscreen is cntrolled individually, in contrast to a CRT screen, were the entire screen is build up everytime something changes. Which in turn is the refresh rate we're talking about.
The equivaltent of refresh rate on a flatscreen would be response time. Measured in ms. In stead of changing everypixel in the screen every time, each pixel in a flatscreen is controlled individually. The time it takes one pixel to change from one color to another is called the response time (actually it is the time it takes to turn from solid black to solid white, but the point is the same )If you have a flatscreen with a response time of 20ms, this means that is has the equivalent of a refresh rate of 50Hz. Does it have 4ms, the refresh rate would be 250Hz.
So what is the difference between setting 60 or 75Hz on a TFT?
Refresh rate is meaningless in a TFT panel because they don't refresh the picture - they don't need to because they work differently to CRTs. The 60Hz and 75Hz are there because when using VGA output (analogue) the video card has to send out a refresh signal and if the TFT panel cannot handle a refresh signal, even though it doesn't need it, there will be no picture.
So why would you set the refresh rate for a flat screen? Dunno actually. It doesn't do anything
