Default The daily Republican crooks and Democratic villains thread

    Fellow mudpiters,

I decided to open this thread in order to post news from the Bush administration, war in Iraq and the sorry state of the opposition. I don't wish to open a new thread for every piece of news that lands in my subterranean conspiratorial asylum. I will reserve the second post as storage space, and update daily the first post. If anyone wishes to contribute from either side of the fence, or from the top of it, do not hesitate to PM me. I hope that in time, this thread will be a valuable addition to our common memory.

    Garb.

    And here I go again:

    Article 3 April 19 2006

While the number of Generals asking for Rummie's resignation has now risen to seven, President Bush offered his full support to his friend:

"I hear the voices, and I read the front page, and I know the speculation. But I'm the decider, and I decide what is best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense."
Rumdfeld was untouched by the recent staff shake up of the DECIDER,
    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...NGLRIBA6V1.DTL

but a new powerful voice came to lend his ehem...voice to the dormant opposition

NEIL YOUNG... hey hey my my...
    http://www.news24.com/News24/Enterta...918428,00.html

and of course all that with a song

    Let's impeach the President
Lock him up for all his crimes
Make him suffer all his days
    And bring back better times.
Listen to the dead boy's mom,
    Bring the army murderers home
    Let Iraq's insurgents win
    And end imperial sin.

    The Hundred-Woman Chorus:

Down and down and down he comes
From Canada to save the dumb
    Americans.
    He's Neil, the One.
His voice is like mosquito wings
It whines and weeps and always stings
    Republicans.
He knows how all of us should be,
He always tells the truth in D.
He'll crack the teeth of Condi's Bush,
    Abort Satanic Christians.
    He's Neil, the One.

    Let's impeach the President
He killed Iraqi wives and kids
He lied to fool us into war
For dirty oil and greedy Yids.
    Listen to the Towers' song
    Listen humbly, hard and long
The truth explodes just like a bomb
    The accusations of Islam.

    I don't know what's worst. Young's senile rant, or Dubya's senile administration?

    Article 2 April 14 2006

Fifth retired general calls for Rumsfeld's resignation

"We need to continue to fight the global war on terror and keep it off our shores," Swannack said in a telephone interview. "But I do not believe Secretary Rumsfeld is the right person to fight that war based on his absolute failures in managing the war against Saddam in Iraq."
Among the five senior retired generals who have called for Rumsfeld's ouster, some have emphasized that they still believe it was right for the United States to invade Iraq. But a common thread in their complaints has been an assertion that Rumsfeld and his aides too often inserted themselves unnecessarily into military decisionmaking, often disregarding advice from military commanders .
    http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/04/...a/military.php

The number of accusers is increasing. The interesting thing is that the Democratic party, allegedly the opposition in the US is almost absent from any political debate. Are they so certain that GOP is the best opposition to itself or they're just incapable of serious debate? Time will tell...

And if you have the time and the appetite go for this too:

    Why Iraq Was A Mistake

So what is to be done? We need fresh ideas and fresh faces. That means, as a first step, replacing Rumsfeld and many others unwilling to fundamentally change their approach. The troops in the Middle East have performed their duty. Now we need people in Washington who can construct a unified strategy worthy of them. It is time to send a signal to our nation, our forces and the world that we are uncompromising on our security but are prepared to rethink how we achieve it. It is time for senior military leaders to discard caution in expressing their views and ensure that the President hears them clearly. And that we won't be fooled again.

    Another Scam

Hey, is anyone here old enough to remember the portable bio-labs of Saddam? Ever wonder what happened to them?

On May 29, 2003, 50 days after the fall of Baghdad, President Bush proclaimed a fresh victory for his administration in Iraq: Two small trailers captured by U.S. and Kurdish troops had turned out to be long-sought mobile "biological laboratories." He declared, "We have found the weapons of mass destruction."

The claim, repeated by top administration officials for months afterward, was hailed at the time as a vindication of the decision to go to war. But even as Bush spoke, U.S. intelligence officials possessed powerful evidence that it was not true.

A secret fact-finding mission to Iraq -- not made public until now -- had already concluded that the trailers had nothing to do with biological weapons. Leaders of the Pentagon-sponsored mission transmitted their unanimous findings to Washington in a field report on May 27, 2003, two days before the president's statement.

The three-page field report and a 122-page final report three weeks later were stamped "secret" and shelved. Meanwhile, for nearly a year, administration and intelligence officials continued to publicly assert that the trailers were weapons factories.

The authors of the reports were nine U.S. and British civilian experts -- scientists and engineers with extensive experience in all the technical fields involved in making bioweapons -- who were dispatched to Baghdad by the Defense Intelligence Agency for an analysis of the trailers. Their actions and findings were described to a Washington Post reporter in interviews with six government officials and weapons experts who participated in the mission or had direct knowledge of it.

None would consent to being identified by name because of fear that their jobs would be jeopardized. Their accounts were verified by other current and former government officials knowledgeable about the mission. The contents of the final report, "Final Technical Engineering Exploitation Report on Iraqi Suspected Biological Weapons-Associated Trailers," remain classified. But interviews reveal that the technical team was unequivocal in its conclusion that the trailers were not intended to manufacture biological weapons. Those interviewed took care not to discuss the classified portions of their work.

"There was no connection to anything biological," said one expert who studied the trailers. Another recalled an epithet that came to be associated with the trailers: "the biggest sand toilets in the world."

It is an easy punch line, but Garb. cannot resist: I always thought that the claims on WMD were a big pile of <excrement>

well that those mobile trucks never existed and the reports were fake was discovered 2 years ago, so why asking what happened to them?
that they were made up with foolishly faked documents was proven a long time ago

The problem is it has recently come out that the President knew the mobile trucks were not weapons labs before he made statements asserting the contrary. He lied. Again. I'm not sure why there isn't more outrage about this...

Seems strange that so many leaks of this type are coming out now.

Its almost like their is a concerted effort to bring Bush and co down. Even the republicans are starting to distance themselves, almost like rats abandoning a sinking ship.

And next time (Iran perhaps) we'll do exactly the same as we did this time. We'll march in the streets, declare our pubic opposition, then vote the buggers back into power.

Continuing the story about Bush and the Iraqi bio-weapons trailers, yesterday Scott McClellan (the WH press secretary) said he didn't know when Bush had been told by intel agencies that the trailers weren't for WMD production. So today, the press asked him again, he responded with a dodge:
Quote Originally Posted by Press transcript

MCCLELLAN: The only update I have on that matter is what the Pentagon said yesterday.

The Pentagon put out a statement and talked about how that was a preliminary report from a DIA — would mean Defense Intelligence Agency — sponsored technical exploitation team. And that information was sent to the DIA. And then they said that the CIA-DIA joint white paper that was released publicly on May 28th reflected the position of the intelligence community at the time, and that the findings that you’re bringing up were vetted with other intelligence analysts during the summer of 2003.

So that’s a statement from the Pentagon, and that’s the only update I have at this point.
So he didn't answer the question, but instead started talking about the CIA/DIA report. So it looks like the WH doesn't quite have it's talking points ready yet to respond to this issue.

I am a bit unclear as to exactly how this thread works, so if this is in the wrong place or something, I apologize.

So the hegemon of the international community’s politics is of no ones business? In reality of course its everyone’s business, we are in a flat, globalized world, where the big act small, and the small act big. Where countries go to war and shun the international community on flawed intelligence. The point is that the world is a global village, and everyone has plugged themselves into the global market and everything some country does is everyone’s business....

yes i was talking to garb, and no our politics have nothing to do with other people. OUtside of maybe a few dollars more for gas, which is bound to happen with the increase in emand and liberal refusal for increase in supply, how does this affect people on this board if you are not american? I know you can claim, we'll my father/ borther/ self is going or already there in iraq witht he (your nation here) army. FIne, in the end that's your local politics that decided that, not american. Now, i know you can say what about Iraqis, they are affected. Yes they are, but none are on this board. So why does personal American matters matter, outside of your chance to make yourself feel better and do nothing at the same time.

I'm not saying don't debate the war, that's fine, but a fricken article about our politics??? Hey, let me post about my next door neighbor's bickering

Why don't you try telling that to my father, who spent one year in prison- because the brother of my grandfather was a communist (!)- when the US instigated a military dictatorship in my totally democratic country???.

For the rest I'm going to move away from the keyboard now.
But I will be back later.

First of all this is a POLITICS FORUM.

Secondly, if someone thinks that American politics has no effect on countries outside of its borders, then they are seriously misunderestimating the influence that America has - primarily economic. America catches a cold, the world gets flu...

Hey according to JP226 we are living in America before th Spanish-American War. We had make sure McKinely gets voted in with Teddy as his VP.

US politics has an effect the world over. So I think everyone has a right to talk about it. They just have no right to call the voters stupid.
