not really sure where this belongs, but i was just curious, do you think that the US would have another failed attempt to end Communism in North Korea, or would things be different this time around?

I don't know, with China right there there are many possibilities. They could enter like they did before, or do nothing. You never know. Something like that would stir up a load of international trouble though.
yeah that's what im afriad of China would send down troops, then we would have to go to war when them, then it'll start WW3 blah blah blah, but we should try to actually become allies with China first before we start invading North Korea. (because we are nuetral with China right?)

Due to international pressure I see why they wouldn't.
Why the hell would China send troops?
North Korea is nothing but a drain on them.
Thier biggest concern is that it doesn't collapse because that would mean all the refugees would run to them.
North Korea does have a million man Army, much less manouvring space than Iraq, far worse terrain for tanks and only one way to invade through (I doubt Russia or China would host an invasion).
Not to mention Saddam's forces were really disorganized, and if there's one thing Asians are famous for, it's organization.
I have a friend and fellow co-worker who went to S. Korea about 6 years ago, when he was stationed there. According to him, if N. Korea invaded the South, it would blow through the country. There are not enough U.S troops to even stop them. Supposedly, they have a special contingent of troops that could take the capitol within 4 hours of the invasion. Also, most of their artillery could hit the South Korean capital and major cities.
When my friend flew his helicopter over the DMC line, he reported he had over 40 laser pointed weapons aiming at him.
This would be so only if the North Koreans are still digging tunnels. Coming over the DMZ and making it to Seoul in 4 hours could only happen if the attack were a complete surprise. This ground is some of the most surveilled territory on earth. And if they don't make it in 4 hours, they're going to be in for a nasty shock, as you can well imagine.Originally Posted by PyrrhusIV

As land mines, however, they would be a remarkably potent deterrant to invasion considering the terrain. NK are outmatched in every area and their army would be decimated in conventional warfare. The threat of the NK military is more a propaganda tool than it is a real threat imo.

That was in a different time, when the US and China had no relations to speak of. Now with the US's "most favored nation" trading deal with China, they would not risk losing their biggest customer. What reason would they have to defend North Korea?Well they entered the first war, they might do it again.

The fact that they are both communist government. That is pretty much why they did it in the Korean War.Originally Posted by the_mango55

Actually, it would be in their interest to help smashing it. N Korea's armament is giving Tokyo a excuse to do the same. Beijing is not at all friendly with Toyko as we all know.
What in the world gave you the idea that China is a commie nation?
Sorry, didn't say that right. Meant back during KW.
And don't blame me to much for this stuff- I never really know or care that much, so I don't know a lot.
they are "communist" in name only. All of the former communist dictatorships realized that capitalizim can make far more money, so now they are all capitalist dictatorships.
