Default Finding a way around RTW diplomacy

I believe I read somewhere a long time ago, that one could "improve" as so to say, the AI diplomacy, more specifically, your AI allies behavior to you. We all know that due to the amazing job done at CA regarding diplomacy in RTW, everybody attacks you, no matter how long standing your relations have been with that faction.

I'm pretty sure I read in the TWC forums someone saying about how to avoid (to a certain extent) your allies backstabbing you, by giving them tribute every turn, to be able to increase your reputation with that ally (which degrades gradually by a hardcoded bug). Now, can someone confirm this? Or have I been spending thousands of denarii for no use?

Solution: dont lose a battle, and kill anyone who attacks you.
Although this may disappoint some people, I am indeed alive, I just went inactive for three years.

I've also had that sometimes, a rebel can have a diplomat and ask to be neutral with you

I think I wasn't very clear, I'm really asking if giving gifts every turn to your allies can secure an alliance, or at least, make it last longer. Fuyff was really the only one that, up to some point, understood what I meant.

The issue is, that I'm not playing vanilla RTW right now (it's RTR:VII), so I have to use diplomacy if I want to survive (I can't afford more than 2 stacks for three different theaters, against 4 potential enemies). Apparently one shouldn't give too many denarii gifts, or just don't do it every turn... very good guide though, I didn't think that the diplomacy was that good. Apparently this bug that decreases reputation seems to be the only issue.

i think the mechanics are basically the same if you play H or VH you reputation/standing with each faction decreases with every turn.

This applies to M2TW but good read anyway

Depending on difficulty, your standing tends to drift towards +1.0 (very easy), 0.0 (medium), -0.5 (hard), and -1.0 fast (very hard).
