Default Hardest faction to play as for your particular playing style

What I mean by the thread title is,
Is there any specific faction you just can't get a grip on because of their unit choices, starting position, etc. just because you don't prefer it?
    Which ones and why?
    For me it's definitely England...
I don't like spending upkeep on navy so sometimes I lose full armies when they're destroyed by pirates because I only put them on a single Cog.
I like cavalry and their choices sort of disappoint me in comparison to France.
I don't like how they emphasize archers. I barely use archers.
    Anyway, what about you guys?

HRE, and France, and all the Muslim factions save the Turks and ONLY in the late game.

I don't actually have much problems playing as any factions in this game. Usually I can't cope with factions with very poor infantries such as Parthia back in vanilla Rome it's difficult (and sometimes impossible) to assault cities with no infantries. Here there is always at least one decent type of infantry for such purpose in every faction.

Having problems with France's early game. Don't do too well with potential wars on all sides. I'd expect the same difficulties if I tried HRE and Hungary although they both seem to be better off economically.

I like horse archers, so I guess sieges are hard? I dunno what I should say because I can kick ass as any faction with any style. Not that hard to adapt on the fly if you have a vague idea of what units can do.

I usually like heavy infantry, archers, and flanking cavalry, or an all-cavalry army. If I had an archer heavy army with no good anything else (also known as Dale in TATW), then I'd probably start to lose to the AI.

That's a toughie. But I'll have to say Egypt. Remote, secluded, a hub for crusades and generally impossible to have genuine allies with it. And their units don't especially fit my style. I rely heavily on heavy infantry.

The Hashashim are just one unit. I need several. My army with England for example usually consists of Dismounted English Knights, Retinue Longbowmen, Armored Swordsmen and Sergeat Spearmen with two generals as cavalry units or some extra English Knights.

I usually just use spearmen and archers so any faction suits me well. the only factions I do not like are the ones in the east because of the bigger territories. Since it takes so long to travel. Plus rebels everywhere!

Usually have a hard time as either Poland or Hungary ... being catholic, they are limited by the pope...HAving to fight either Russia or Byzantines respectively. Great cavalry factions, but starting out its hard to get the economy going - the vast territories of the east, and the poor quality infantry makes for a great challenge.

Just for the playing style tho, almost any faction is good for me. They all have spearmen, and cavalry of some sort. THose lacking Missile Cav -- tend to make up with good light cav, or great foot archers.

Missile Cav is preferrable tho, esp the ones who can turn into light/medium cav in the melee.

@Nazgūl Killer Doesn't egypt have the... Tabariddya or something like that; That have 2 handed axes and pretty good armor?

Well... Really I'm pretty adaptable, But Egypt is probably the one I'm least good at. I prefer using heavy cavalry, horse Archers lots of archers and heavy infantry (Which pretty much sums it up to France though I play a lot of factions.)

    All cavalry heavy nations.
I know how to use them well enough and even in my army's as England or Scotland ill use some but i prefer the simple spear archer combo with some sword or axemen to use for shock troopers on the wings.
I am the shadow, and the smoke in your eyes I am the ghost, that hides in the night.

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
    we shall fight in the hills;
    we shall never surrender.

    " The dark is generous.
Its first gift is concealment: our true faces lie in the dark beneath our skins, our true hearts remain shadowed deeper still. But the greatest concealment lies not in protecting our secret truths, but in hiding from the truths of others.
The dark protects us from what we dare not know.
Its second gift is comforting illusion: the ease of gentle dreams in night’s embrace, the beauty that imagination brings to what would repel in the day’s harsh light. But the greatest of its comforts is the illusion that dark is temporary: that every night brings a new day. Because it’s the day that is temporary.
    Day is the illusion.
Its third gift is the light itself: as days are defined by the nights that divide them, as stars are defined by the infinite black through which they wheel, the dark embraces the light, and brings it forth from the center of its own self.
With each victory of the light, it is the dark that wins.

The dark is generous, and it is patient.
It is the dark that seeds cruelty into justice, that drips contempt into compassion, that poisons love with grains of doubt.
The dark can be patient, because the slightest drop of rain will cause those seeds to sprout.
The rain will come, and the seeds will sprout, for the dark is the soil in which they grow, and it is the clouds above them, and it waits behind the star that gives them light.
    The dark’s patience is infinite.
    Eventually, even stars burn out.

The dark is generous, and it is patient, and it always wins.
It always wins because it is everywhere.
It is in the wood that burns in your hearth, and in the kettle on the fire; it is under your chair and under your table and under the sheets on your bed. Walk in the midday sun, and the dark is with you, attached to the soles of your feet.
The brightest light casts the darkest shadow.

The dark is generous and it is patient and it always wins – but in the heart of its strength lies its weakness: one lone candle is enough to hold it back.
Love is more than a candle.
    Love can ignite the stars."

    You began the war.

I am going to end it!

Strongly agree with everyone who said Egypt... Egypt is just straight up annoying. It'll take like 50 turns to travel the desert and get all adjacent regions... Just to fight the mongols...

As far as I'm concerned, that unit is simply dreadful. In all battles I faced off with them, I had destroyed them rather easily or made them route. The only Egyptian heavy infantry unit worth mentioning is the dismounted Ghulam, and I'm pretty sure that's only for Stainless Steel. I just don't like their army, their position and the fact that you have 0% chance of ever having a proper alliance with anyone.

All the Muslim factions, because I don't play as them. As a result, I have no experience with them, and a campaign is harder without experience

The Moors is the only Muslim faction I like because I can just conquer Europe via Spain. And Russia also suffers from same Priblem as Turks/Egypt. Although I guess you could ignore those big territories and go straight for Western Europe.

Another reason I don't really like Egypt is because their "heavy" infantry doesn't work well, someone mentioned this above. The fact that you're in the scorching desert means their armor is nearly nonexistent.

The Muslim factions are easily the best in the game, I mean jihad on turn 1!!!

The hardest factions are Russia and Byzantium because you have no access to crusade/jihad.
[M2TW AAR] The Spirit of the Blitz (16 turn long campaign victory with Sicily)
[RETROFIT AAR] World War 0 (All factions hotseat)
