I've updated the first post - it's the Age of Justinian section - ( link ) with the following characters:
    • Gelimer
    • Totila
    • Kavadh
    • Alboin

I've made two versions of Totila, with and without a helmet. For his armour I've used a description by Prokopios, who claims that his armour and helmet was decorated with gold and purple ornaments.

I've updated the first post with a minor set I've named The Fall of Gaul. It features historical characters such as:
    • Aegidius
    • Syagrius
    • Riothamus
    • Childeric
    • Clovis
    • Gundobad
    • Euric
    • Goar
    • Sangiban

It's located within Series III - The Decline of the West.

Minot nitpicking - Goar looks extremely dark skinned for a steppe nomad, especially and Iranian one.

Maybe... Or maybe he spent way too much time in the solarium.

I've made some minor adjustments to the opening post, and I'm also showing a few samples of how the finished portraits may look.

Great work Joar! Only now I saw Theodora protrait, it is simply perfect!!!!
All the protraits are beautiful and true to their historical models, very interesting work!
I've only two small notes about Diocletianus and Constantinus:

Diocletianus: I ever thought Diocletianus more, how to say?....mature or middle-aged or veteran looking man, this becouse Diocle became Imperator after at least 15/20 years of service coming from the low ranks to the top of the military hierarchy, he was 41 years old when he became emperor in 284 AD, your protrait is good but maybe a bit young for the real man, in the end he was a veteran soldier.

Constantinus is good! and this is the problem I found: he seems too much a good man while he was a real man, a real tough guy, he won a civil war and killed all his opponents, he was not a beautiful, well educated, young and aristocratic Roman boy!

But these are only personal opinions, and are not about the quality of the work, which is truly wonderful, again great but really great work Joar! ....................+rep

Amazing work, Joar, as always +rep for you

I must say, there is one aspect i praise the most in this portraits. The concept we have from the Republican era, in which seemed to existed a stark contrast between what was "Roman/civilized" and what was "Germanic/barbarian", specially about the clothing and customs. Your portraits, specially in the later eras, truly demonstrate the pervasive cultural influences between these two worlds, to the point where we can't anymore say one is a barbarian and the other is a Roman (best examples are Alaric and Theodoric).

Also, i really appreciate the time period, and am looking foward to the next Invasio Barbarorum instalments.

P.S.: I kinda miss Totila in the "Age of Justinian", i mean, you made Teia and Amalasuntha, but not the warlord the sacked Rome for the fourth time ?

I've already done Charlemagne and a few more from that time period. I will showcase them later on.

It is, however, unikely that I'll do Caesar and Augustus. After all, it's called the late Antiquity...
